2008 Republican Convention–Rudy Giuliani

One day before 9/11, the only leader that comes to my mind is former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

One year ago, on Tuesday, 9/11, 2007, Rudy Giuliani gave a rousing speech at Sean Hannity’s 9/11 Freedom Concert in New York. Actually it was at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, but that counts as New York. I backed him for President, and hope he is given serious candidate for Attorney General or Secretary of Defense in a John McCain administration.

I met him a couple weeks later, and was thrilled to see and hear a true leader.

Several weeks later he gave a phenomenal presentation at the Republican Jewish Coalition 2008 Candidates Forum.

His speech at the 2004 Republican Convention was an A+.

He was just as fabulous in 2008.

Rudy Giuliani came out fighting, and decked the democrats right across their Kumbaya singing, surrender loving faces.

“People decide the President, not the left wing media or Hollywood celebrities.”

“If two men were applying for a job, I would look at their resumes. So let’s compare their resumes and qualifications for the job.”

“One has dedicated his life to service of the United States. Everyone acknowledges that John McCain is a hero.”

“He loves America as we
all do. He has sacrificed for America as few do.”

“He has proved his commitment with his blood. He earned a life of peace and preservation. Instead, he went into public service.”

“The other applicant is a gifted man with an Ivy League education.”

“He worked as a community organizer. That is the first problem on the resume.”

“He is immersed in Chicago machine politics.”

“Nearly 130 times, he voted ‘present.’ He couldn’t make a decision. It was too tough.”

“I didn’t know about voting present as the Mayor of New York City. Executives can’t vote present. It isn’t good enough. You have to make decisions.”

“He is a celebrity Senator. His rise can only happen in the United States of America.”

“He has never run a city. He has never run a state. He has never run a business. He has never run anything. He has never led. Nothing! Nada!”

“Substance is more important than style. This is no time for on the job training. We agree with Joe Biden this one time until he flip flopped on this one as well.”

“Nothing nature throws or that terrorists bring will rattle John McCain. We and our children and our country will be safe in the hands of John McCain.”

“The other side believes that if you don’t like the facts, just change them.”

“Change is not a destination, and hope is not a strategy.”

“In four days in Denver, the democrats did not one time say the words Islamic terrorism. Are they afraid to insult terrorists? They rarely mentioned 9/11. They are living in a state of denial. If you deny a problem, and then don’t deal with a problem, then you can’t face the problem.”

“McCain can face the problem and win, and bring victory.”

“When the democratic party gave up on Iraq, they gave up on America.”

“They said that the war is lost. Lost? If America lost, who won? Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden won.”

“On the single biggest issue, John McCain got it right, and Barack Obama got it wrong.”

“As for change, how many times did we see Barack Obama change? On public financing, he said he would participate and then broke his word and opted out. On wiretapping he changed his position. He said he was in favor of an undivided Jerusalem, and the very next day changed his position. If I were Joe Biden, I would get the VP thing in writing.”

“John McCain said that we are all Georgians. Barack Obama began by creating a moral equivalancy between Georgia and Russia, the same way he created a moral equivalancy between the Palestinian Authority and the State of Israel. After discussing the issue with his 300 advisers, he then turned to the U.N. Security Council for a solution. None of his advisers told him that Russia has a U.N. veto. He then changed his position to the position of John McCain. I have advice for Obama…Next time, just call John McCain.”

“Sarah Palin is the future. McCain looked forward. Obama reached back to the past.”

“Sarah Palin has more executive experience than the entire democratic ticket.”

“Wasilla, Alaska, is not cosmopolitan. It is not flashy enough. Maybe they cling to religion.”

“On Palin’s first day as Mayor she had more experience than Obama.”

“How dare they question whether Palin has time to be VP and spend time with her children.”

“We are the party that gives workers the right to work, and parents the right to choose their schools for their children.”

As 9/10 of 2008 turns into another 9/11, I mourn the loss of my fellow New Yorkers. I thank almighty God that some men such as George W. Bush, John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani are actually willing to do something about making sure that those that committed this act, financed this act, or contributed to worldwide terrorism in any way, are brought to justice.

For those that are not still enraged, go look at the hole in the ground. I will see it again in a couple weeks, and well up with anger.

This is the world we live in. Violent Radical Islamofacism is the beiggest threat that faces the world today. Nothing comes a close second.

It must be eradicated, one murderous zealot at a time.

Nothing less is acceptable.

Rudy Giuliani understands this.

His speech may hurt the feelings of some people.

Those people mean nothing to me. I want their feelings hurt.

One thing has not changed. Rudy Giuliani remains right.

Nothing has changed here either buddy.

I have fond memories of that neighborhood and the people I used to know around there.
The towers were my first inspiration as to how really great this country is.
I used to go to the observation deck often and look around in totall amazement.
Those bastards took that way from me.
But my loss in no comparison to what happened to the thousands there that day.
I will drop a note in Gods box for all of them.
    While I cry.

  2. Unlike most of my liberal friends, I was never a big detractor of Giuliani. I think part of the reason for that is because I saw the real changes Giuliani brought to the sorts of neighborhoods in which most of his liberal detractors would never dare set foot. On the other hand, I was not a big fan of the way he handled 9/11 and later used it to propel his political career.

As for his tangible handling of 9/11, he should never have stationed his emergency response team so close to a famous target for international terrorists in the first place. That was a huge mistake. Also, he should have been much more careful with the post-9/11 emergency response. Those rescue and clean-up workers should have ALL been wearing face-maskes and other such environmental protection gear. Politically, he did a great job. Administratively, I would grade him with a generous “C” at best.

As for the way he parlayed 9/11 into the furtherance of his political career – well… I find it just plain abhorant. And the way he moved to the political Right after 9/11 was conspicuously cynical. Remember, the first time he ran for mayor he didn’t even use the word “Republican” on his various campaign letterheads and slogans. The second time he used “Liberal Republican,” which would have been an oxymoron were it not for the fact that he did run far to the Left of mainstream national republicans. (I might be mixing up the two elections) Truth be told, Rudy Giuliani was always a Daddy State conservative and a laizzez faire social liberal. That’s why he never stood a chance at winning the GOP nomination.

Now let’s take some of his comments…

“He worked as a community organizer. That is the first problem on the resume.”

What the …. is that supposed to mean? What’s wrong with being a community organizer? That’s was a creepy comment.

“He is immersed in Chicago machine politics.”

It’s funy that he mentioned this because it just goes to prove that Obama is a mainstream moderate Democrat. I know the innuendo here is that Obama is crooked, but his record shows no corruption on his part and what little connections to the more crooked side of “Chicago machine politics” appear to be negligible.

“Nearly 130 times, he voted ‘present.’ He couldn’t make a decision. It was too tough.”

This is just sleazy and stupid. Obama was running for president. If Giuliani were running for president during the same period while he was senator I’m sure his record on that count would be similar.

“I didn’t know about voting present as the Mayor of New York City. Executives can’t vote present. It isn’t good enough. You have to make decisions.”

One thing you can say for Giuliani is that he’s a hard worker. He rarely ever took a vacation when he was the mayor. On the other hand, he never ran for any other office during that time. The man is a pile of energy, which might explain his famous libido. On the other hand, that same famous libido puts Bill Clinton to shame. Giuliani was fooling around on the job. There’s something to say about that, but I won’t bother to say it because you cons have already said it thousands of times over when it comes to pols who happen not to be republicans.

“His rise can only happen in the United States of America.”

I don’t know about that. It seems a little presumptuous.

“He has never run a city. He has never run a state. He has never run a business. He has never run anything. He has never led. Nothing! Nada!”

Actually, when you study Obama’s career, you see that he ran some rather amazing political organizing teams. His results were unprecedented.

“Nothing nature throws or that terrorists bring will rattle John McCain. We and our children and our country will be safe in the hands of John McCain.”

Really? I thought rattling John McCain comes rather easy. He’s kind of famous for that. I’ve followed his career for years and believe me – the man rattles easily. Even members of his own party have said the man frightens them. he’s known for flying of the hook and cussing all red-faced and angry when things don’t go his way. I don’t know about Rudy, but for me McCain is a little frightening as well.

“When the democratic party gave up on Iraq, they gave up on America.”

Oookaaayyy… Let’s just change the name of America to Iraqica!

“They said that the war is lost. Lost? If America lost, who won? Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden won.”

Well, Bin Laden hated Saddam Hussein, and the new Iraqi government is more Islamist than ever, so I suppose it could be said that if the war was WON then Osama WON as well! Just stupid.

I won’t go on because it’s just too depressing. But I think you guys get the idea here.

Yea, its easy to critisize after the fact.
Maybe we should of built the towers about 30 stories shorter also.

I’d like to of seen Ray Nagin and Blanco handle that one. :-)

“What the …. is that supposed to mean? What’s wrong with being a community organizer? That’s was a creepy comment.”

Gotti and Gambini were community organizers, and very creepy. . Its a vague job description at best and doesnt really instill corporate, executive or foreign policy experience.

“It’s funy that he mentioned this because it just goes to prove that Obama is a mainstream moderate Democrat. Whats also funny is that a large precense of radical leftist seems to be based there also.
And he’s been tied to them as was made evident by his lack to refute it with OReilly.
When asked what friends on the right he has or associates with he could not say.
All he did was mumble some crap and then say “if I did say it would be used against me”

” I’m sure his record on that count would be similar.”

If your so sure you must have sources ?

“Actually, when you study Obama’s career, you see that he ran some rather amazing political organizing teams. His results were unprecedented.”

Well then, he should look into campaign management instead of the presidency.
Maybe he could give Carl Rove a run for his money.

“Really? I thought rattling John McCain comes rather easy. He’s kind of famous for that. I’ve followed his career for years and believe me – the man rattles easily. ”

Ask the staff at the Hanoi Hilton.
I’m sure they’ll tell you the opposite.

“the new Iraqi government is more Islamist than ever, so I suppose it could be said that if the war was WON then Osama WON as well! Just stupid. ”

Yea, lets see him set up shop in Iraq like he did in Afghanistan.
At least the Iraqis now have the best chance they’ve ever had at a capitalistic society that will thrive on its people and resources instead of being drained and oppressed by a dictator.
Of course its Islamist ! And how could it ever be more Islamist than it was before ?
The population demographics havent changed, they’ve been moved around a little.
And actually tolerance towards christianity is a lot better than it used to be.

    We got the idea alright.
Its just not the same one that is based on a$$ kissing and hate

  4. Micky, it was STUPID to put the emeegency response office that close to the WTC. “After the fact???” Get rreal man! Everyone long since already knew the WTC was a big fat target!

You Neocons have failed with at every single thing you’ve been dealt. At what point do you finally realize this?

    JMJ

  5. Micky 2 says:

    Every single thing ?
    Thats just stupid.
    With due respect.

Most of your critique involving Rudys response was after the fact.

Gee, and if it were any where else you would of said it was too far away since it was a well known target.

NYC and Rudy did an excellent job compared to the handling during Katrina
and whats worse is that they had almost a weeks notice.

Dont even talk to me about failure after four attacks on Amerca during you guys last watch and not one on ours.

” Everyone long since already knew the WTC was a big fat target!”

Yea, Clinton knew probably better than anyone.

  6. I apparently, unlike you, am not a big fan of Bill Clinton.

    JMJ

  7. Micky 2 says:

Doesnt change the fact that a democratic policy failed us miserably, repeatedly.
You have bragged of him and defended him on many occasion.
And trust me, if you know me, I’ll dig up the proof and show it to you.
I’m very good at it, as you’ve noticed before, I’m sure.

Your denial of your love for Bubba is hardly convincing.
Shall we start with your glorification of his economic policies ?
I know right where to go.
