RJC in Santa Monica–John Ratzenberger

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

At the annual Republican Jewish Coalition Summer Bash in Santa Monica, California, I had the pleasure of listening to and meeting actor John Ratzenberger.

Mr. Ratzenberger is best known to America as oddball postal worker Cliff Clavin from the legendary television show Cheers.

On the 200th episode of Cheers, Ratzenberger described Cliff Clavin to John McLaughlin.

Cliff Clavin, according to Cliff Clavin, is the wingnut that holds western civilization together. To me Cliff Clavin is just a winged nut.

Mr. Ratzenberger has left the bar where everybody knew his name, and left the postal service as well. Yet his acting career is busir than ever, even though his face is not onscreen as much. He has a voice role in virtually every Pixar animation movie that comes out.

Mr. Ratzenberger kept a low profile politically, preferring not to spar with well known liberals Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson. Yet the atmosphere behind the scenes of Cheers was friendly.

In recent years, with his paycheck secure, Mr. Ratzenberger is speaking out more about his politics. While he leans right of center, he has one issue that he feels people of all political persuasions can unite around. Mr. Ratzenberger is passionate about manufacturing.

Manufacturing? Yes, manufacturing. He runs the Nuts and Bolts Foundation. He is no wingnut. He is a serious man who wants us to all care about wingnuts. With that, I present the remarks of John Ratzenberger.

I became an actor because actors dont have to lift heavy cement bags.

I was a carpenter in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Bridgeport is a town where you drive through it real fast, and you cover your head during the day.

I told my daughter when she was growing up that if a boy gets inappropriate, say stop! three times. If you say stop, stop, stop, and he does not stop, you punch him in the nose. Two weeks later at school, a boy was snapping her bra. She just hit him. She did not even say stop. She just knocked him out.

We need to say to Iran, stop, stop, stop. If they dont, then we bloody their nose economically.

Europe enjoys freedom because the United States is a strong nation.

In Amsterdam the police are smoking pot. The army is useless.

The basis of our strength in America is not our actors, our media, or our athletes. Our strength comes from the guy who gets up early in the morning and puts a nut and a bolt together.

Farmers are people who have to get up early and figure stuff out before the cows get out or the wolves get in.

In the 1980s, we canceled vocational training in the schools. We were told it was now the information age. We were going to be a service economy.

For our society to succeed, it must make stuff, and it must sell stuff.

Our kids are food processors playing video games. That is not a training ground for carpenters and plumbers.

The question is, why would anybody want to be a plumber?

Most people see the surgeon as better than the plumber. Well when the surgeon goes to wash his hands, either there is a working faucet with working hot water, or there is no surgery.

We have lost our common sense. How can we maintain a military when we cant make our own armamanet?

China is making the circuit boards for our submarines.

We dont connect the nuts and bolts for our own Jeeps and Humvees. If this keeps up, in six to ten years we will be facing an industrial tsunami.

Somebody had to build the wall before telling Michelangelo to get to work.

I began the Nuts and Bolts Foundation. We train welders, and teach people other valuable trades.

I went to a school and asked how many of the students wanted to be auto mechanics. One student raised his hand. The rest laughed at him because they were going to be doctors and lawyers. I pointed out to them that while they would be paying off student loans, he would be making more money than any of them because he would be fixing their cars.

This is an issue that Democrats used to own. Yet Tip ONeill is no longer Speaker. People could picture Tip ONeill getting out a hammer and fixing his house. Can anybody picture Nancy Pelosi doing that? Republicans can and should pick up on this issue.
Manufacturing has always been part the American DNA. We are people who roll up our sleeves and say, get out of our way, well fix it.

We must foster manufacturing. This is a national security issue.

The media can do their part. They should stop portraying television plumbers as buffoons. Enough with the jokes about the butt crack hanging out. People with trades are vitally important, and they should be portrayed with respect. Kids will not go into these professions if they are constantly portrayed in the media as being uncool and beneath people.

I remember being in Little League. Back when I played, not everybody won just for showing up. If you stunk, you went home. At eight years old you learned how to handle an emotional crisis, not at age thirty.

I love this country desperately. Enough is enough. Pick up a tool box, and lets get to work. We can fix our kids, and fix this country.

John Ratzenberger received a rousing reception, and deservedly so.

I am not saying that the media will be able to launch an hour long television drama around people who manufacture ball bearings, but we have a glut of layers and a shortage of quality carpenters and plumbers.

I remember meeting a Jewish girl at a party who told me she was an electrician. I was stunned, because I had never encountered that before. That should not be.

We ridicule those we need, and glorify those we do not need, with the possible exception of doctors.

I encourage people to learn more about the Nuts and Bolts Foundation. I also implore schools to bring back vocational training.

I am an adult who cannot fix a sink, install piping, or do anything electrical. My auto mechanic makes a fortune on me because I have no idea how to change my oil.

I hope that the next generation learns valuable skills. Time is running out.

The liberals can sing If I had a hammer, while cheerfully hammering away. The conservatives can get aggressive and pound those nails.

We have our differences, but on this issue, together, we can be number one again. John Ratzenberger is ready. Unlike Cliff Clavin, he is no winged nut. He is one of the wingnuts holding America together. Lets help him.

RJC in Santa Monica–Senator John Thune

Friday, July 10th, 2009

At the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Summer Bash, I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to South Dakota Senator John Thune.

I have met Senator Thune before, interviewing him at the 2008 GOP Convention in Minneapolis. I mentioned to him that he should be placed on Mount Rushmore for sending Tom Daschle back to the private sector.

The Sacramento Queen and I had our picture taken with him, and I have to confess as a heterosexual man that Senator Thune is ridiculously handsome. He is proof that one can have style and still maintain substance.

He was asked by more than one individual about 2012, but he kept reminding everyone that he is up for reelection to the Senate in 2010. However, given the cloud over potential former competitors the audience was assured that his marriage is rock solid.

With that, I present the remarks of Senator John Thune.

I was raised in Murdough, South Dakota. Murdough is a town of 553 people, give or take a few.

The American Conservative Union has listed me as a standout, one of the top five conservative leaders.

I am now the chair of the Republican Policy Committee. That is the number four leadership spot. This just occurred last Thursday.

I will tell you what I tell every person in California who complains about the excessive taxation. Move to South Dakota. We have no state income tax.

Yes, the weather is cold in South Dakota. Yet with no state income tax you will be able to save enough money to vacation in California.

We have a Jewish community in South Dakota. I know both the Rosenthals and the Edelsteins. Actually, the Jewish community is larger than that. Well, not by much.

Washington, DC, has become Disneyland East. Washington has gone from the center of government and politics to the center of the auto industry, the financial service industry, and soon, the health care industry.

A surgeon, an architect, and a politician had a competition of who came first. The surgeon claimed he was first since God created Adam, and Eve was created from his rib, which required surgery. The architect claimed he came first since order was transformed from chaos, which required building skills. The politician claimed that he came first by asking, Who do you think created the chaos in the first place?
(Senator Thune let everyone know that the joke was not his original. He then went on to tell a Ronald Reagan joke.)

My grandfather came to this country and worked hard his whole life. There is still a Thune hardware store in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Ronald Reagan believed in the strength of conviction. He believed in the freedom and dignity of individuals.

In the USSR in the 1980s, a man wanted to buy a car. He was told to pay for the car, and that in ten years it would arrive. The man asked if that would be in the morning or the afternoon. The salesman asked why that mattered, since it was ten years away. The man replied that he wanted to pick up the car in the afternoon, since ten years form now in the morning the plumber would be coming.

The new technology is helping Iran. Mousavi now has 5000 Facebook friends.

Cap and trade is a game changer for the U.S. economy. We must stop it in the Senate.

The CBO has estimated a ten year, 2.3 trillion dollar health care plan that only insures 1/3 of the currently uninsured.

There are no good outcomes from the financial trajectory we are on.

There are three important numbers in the Seante: 41, 51, and 60. 60 Senators are needed to cut off a filibuster. 51 Senators are needed to pass legislation with a simple majority. 41 Senators are needed to maintain a filibuster and stop bad legislation from being passed. Norm Coleman makes # 41.

“We need to stop card check. Card check will increase the union roles by 1.5 million, while costing Americans 600,000 jobs.”

“One thing that bends and shapes politicians is hearing from people back home. Let them know how you feel.”

“My daughter’s prize possession is a gift she received when she met Elie Wiesel. Elie Wiesel is a shining example of the cost that comes with freedom.”

“We need to stand up to those who want to take away democracy from those who fought to preserve it.”

America is lucky to have a Senator fighting for our freedoms with the vigor that John Thune brings to the table. The Republican Jewish Coalition attendees in Santa Monica were fortunate to see and hear his brilliance in person.

The Stoning of Soraya M Palin

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Several days ago I wrote about the lynching of Sarah Palin.

https://tygrrrrexpress.com/2009/07/ideological-bigotry-part-xxii-the-lynching-of-sarah-palin/

I then decided that at some point I should discuss the movie “The Stoning of Soraya M.”

http://www.thestoning.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stoning_of_Soraya_M.

I have yet to see the movie, but it is about the brutal third world savagery that passes for civilization among Islamists. Soraya M. was beaten for being a woman. This story happens every day, and the rest of the world ignores it in favor of dialogue with monsters.

Yet in America, there are people being given the verbal equivalent of being dragged through the town square and stoned.

(This is not the same stoning that Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Barack Obama experienced. Recreational pharmaceuticals are apparently less serious than being conservative and breathing air.)

I want to make it crystal clear that I mean not an ounce of disrespect toward the real Soraya M. Whether or not psychological abuse can ever be on par with physical abuse is debatable. Yet for those who point out that the left never physically harmed Sarah Palin, I counter that they absolutely would if they could. Violence against conservatives is what liberal mobs do. Sarah Palin just has better security than the average Republican victim of stolen lawn signs and keyed cars.

It is in this spirit that I present the Stoning of Soraya M. Palin, through the lens of radio host John Ziegler.

http://www.johnziegler.com/

Mr. Ziegler is actually the brains behind a different powerful movie, “Media Malpractice.” This movie is how the media built up Barack Obama, and destroyed Sarah Palin. They did this with the ruthlessness and efficiency of weapon-wielding Mullahs.

The Media Mullahs do not want to stone all women, only religious conservative ones.

With that, I present the full throttled self defense of Sarah Palin through the forceful words of John Ziegler at the San Fernando Valley Republican Club.

http://www.sfvrc.org/

“For those that say I need no introduction, my fiancee would disagree.”

(The SFVRC meetings are held at a Galpin Ford dealership.)

“It is great to be in a car dealership not owned by Barack Obama.”

“I used to be on KFI. The new site ‘The Real KFI’ tells people what they need to know about that station. Never take anybody on that station seriously.”

http://www.therealkfi.com/

(Someone in the audience, which was very animated the entire night, pointed out that Rush Limbaugh was on KFI.)

“Rush is syndicated nationally. Nobody local should be taken seriously on KFI.”

“The Stoning of Soraya M. isbeing shown in theatres in Los Angeles. It has gotten off to a respectable start, but the July 4th weekend made it a challenge. It’s tough to get good July 4th numbers for a movie about stoning.”

“I made the movie ‘Media Malpractice,’ which covered the 2008 election. The media was bent on promoting Barack Obama and destroying Sarah Palin.”

“I was on O’Reilly last night, and I had an interesting experience explaining my views on ‘The View.’ There is nothing like 95 year old Barbara Walters shaking her finger in your face. Yes, she did that.”

“Those in the media that claimed that Sarah Palin suddenly and abruptly resigned got it completely wrong. I knew she would months ago. She told us. The media ignored her. I simply listened.”

“Her resignation was not a sudden decision. She was considering it for months.”

“She was asked in an interview if she had ever thought of leaving. She replied, ‘You know, that’s a good question. Nobody else has ever asked me that. Yes, I have thought of it. Either way, I will continue to fight for my beliefs.'”

“When Matt Lauer asked her about 2012, she said, “I don’t need a title to impact change.’ Lauer didn’t pick up on this.”

“She also said, ‘If I die politically, I die. So be it.’ MSNBC, that bastion of journalism, left this out.”

“The media bias, incompetence, and laziness made for a toxic mix.”

“How many of you in the audience know that Sarah Palin resigned from the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission?”

(Many hands went up.)

“Ok, how many of you who did not hear it from me knew that she resigned from the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission?”

(Several hands remained up.)

“Don’t you think it’s relevant that her resignation from the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission was due to a scandal that she spoke out against, which made her job untenable? Don’t you think that information is relevant?”

“Two years later, she became Governor of Alaska. Four years later she became the Vice Presidential Candidate.”

“Not one journalist knew this. I don’t even think Bill O’Reilly knew it.”

“Her resignation was not a shock. She has done this before, and she succeeded.”

“Her media strategy today was brilliant, forcing the media to go fishing with her. Forcing Andrea Mitchell to go fishing was great.”

“Sarah Palin is somebody who says what she is going to do, and then does it. Most politicians don’t do that.”

“The real reason Sarah Palin resigned was exactly what she said it was.”

“To the cynical mainstream media, it is incomprehensible that she would put her family and her state above politics. This defies logic to them. Her family was attacked, it affected her job, and she had had enough.”

“Sarah Palin is not probably running for President in 2012.”

“She cannot win in 2012 because no Republican can win in 2012. The Media will not let Obama lose. He is with us until 2016.”

“For the problem with us is that the stupor we are in is not going away. We still think that something will happen to help us defeat Obama. It will not.”

“The only person who could beat Obama is Tiger Woods, and he has more important things to do.”

“I hoped that Palin would be a Kamikaze pilot in 2012 like Barry Goldwater in 1964. She could let it all hang out, run a true conservative campaign on principle, lose 59-41, but lay the groundwork for a real conservative revival in 2016. Barry Goldwater lost badly in 1964, but his campaign sowed the seeds for decades of conservative rule. Sarah Palin could run a truly honest campaign, free of pressure, and be another conservative hero.”

“Sarah Palin could say whatever she wanted because only women are allowed to have balls in politics.”

“I’m not sure the 2012 nomination is even worth anything.”

“The best thing Sarah Palin has in her favor is that we live in a celebrity obsessed culture. She is a rock star.”

“She is always viable regardless of her title.”

“During the 2008 campaign, she faced attacks on her daughters. During this same time period, her son was sent to Iraq. Do you think she was under just a little bit more pressure than most people?”

“She went 2000 miles away from home to campaign. She did not even have any clothes. She couldn’t just stop at home and change clothing. So she was bought some clothes. Then she was attacked for that.”

“She was the victim of the worst media coverage in the historyof political media.”

“She was eviscerated for two months, but she stayed quiet for the sake of the campaign.”

“The day after the election should have been the end of it. It wasn’t.”

“She then went back to Alaska to do her job. Yet she can’t even do that when liberal bloggers want to destroy you just to get 15 minutes of fame on Keith Olbermann. 15 separate investigations, repeatedly being dismissed, yet her liberal enemies won’t stop.”

“Then her daughter becomes the victim of a rape joke, and the media sides with Letterman. What would you do?”

“Palin tells you exactly what she is going to do, and then she does it.”

“She got criticized for calling Dave pathetic. What was she supposed to do?”

“She didn’t pick the fight. Her family released a statement. They didn’t even do any interviews. They quietly released a statement.”

“Two days later, she was interviewed by Matt Lauer. She tried to talk about an oil and gas Alaska pipeline. Lauer brought up Palin. She tried to talk about the pipeline, but all Lauer cared about was the Letterman feud.”

“We have become a nation of nitwits. More importantly, we have become a nation of gutless nitwits.”

“The McCain campaign, near the very end when it became apparent that they were going to lose, threw Sarah Palin under the bus. She had to take the fall so they could blame her for the loss of the campaign.”

“The trashing of Palin by the McCain campaign was done by Steve Schmidt. Steve Schmidt was behind the attacks. He was the adviser to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was the one who insisted that Schwarzenegger begin lurching leftward.”

“The one thing about the media is that whenever a Republican is attacking another Republican, it is always seen as true. If a Republican attacks another Republican, it is seen as truthful just because the attacking Republican said it. There is no attempt to even research anything.”

The room was at a fever pitch, and since my friend Evan Sayet was in attendance, I thought I would ask a question designed to crack up the room, while still asking something heartfelt.

“My friends and I like Sarah Palin, but we can’t stand her position on marriage. Specifically, we can’t stand the fact that she is married to somebody who is not any of us.”

(The room erupted in laughter. I continued.)

My question is this. You have clearly outlined the fact that Sarah Palin is hated by the left. However, why exactly do they hate her? Is it because she is a conservative, because she is religious, or is it just that feminists can’t stand a woman who is smart, successful, and yes, drop dead gorgeous?”

(Mr. Ziegler was about to answer the question, but me being me, had to ask one more thing for my own benefit.)

“Also, is it true that her family is completely fictional, and that she is really single, Jewish, and looking?”

(The room erupted again. Mr. Ziegler began to respond.)

“Are you also a comedian? Do you perform standup with Evan Sayet?”

(Evan Sayet then interjected by saying, “Actually, yes he does perform with me. He’s funny.” Ziegler continued.)

“The reason they hate her is because she was a threat to Obama. She was not just a threat. SHe was a very special kind of threat. The Obama campaign was scared to death of her.”

“When she gave her speech at the convention, her ratings beat Obama. The media had to destroy her because she was the one threat that could derail him, and he had to win no matter what.”

“It’s also impossible to ignore the power of the pro-life issue. Women are threatened by her. She is pro-life, and she kills her own food.”

“She is still having sex with her husband.”

(I quietly said “awww, man…” Evan Sayet patted me on the shoulder and said “sorry man.”)

“Yes, she is drop dead gorgeous, and she is running an entire state, and well.”
“We live in the world of reality tv. The reality is that women want that type of woman cut down.”

“Add in entertainment shows such as Saturday Night Live, and Sarah Palin became the story on steroids. Think about Saturday Night Live. Yes, they have had some funny skits about Joe Biden. Yet Joe Biden is ratings death. When Sarah Palin went on the show, the ratings skyrocketed.”

The hatred became the perfect Palin storm. She was a threat to Obama. She is ratings bonanza. She has a compelling personal story.”

John Ziegler knows Sarah Palin better than most people. He has spoken to her and her husband (sighhhh) many times. She has proven that she can leave a job and continue rising. More importantly, she will tell us exactly what her plans are, and why she is doing what she is doing.

The media will miss the story because water is wet.

Also, it is tough to listen to a human being when the people covering her are holding a microphone in one hand and stones in the other hand.

The moral of glass houses is entirely lost on these Media Mullahs.

The Stoning of Soraya M. Palin must not go unpunished.

For the last 30 years, the Mullahs have murdered citizens while the media has done drive by massacres and character assassinations of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Dan Quayle, Newt Gingrich, and now Sarah Palin.

The leftinistra bullies need to bleed, or they will continue throwing stones and injuring innocent people.

It will be fun to watch when the most beautiful moose hunter in America locks, loads, and fires back.

RJC in Santa Monica–Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

At the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Summer Bash in Santa Monica, I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.

http://stevepoizner.com/

Mr. Poizner was a speaker at last year’s bash as well, where he was funny and self-deprecating. He pointed out that if one really want to party, invite an insurance commissioner to speak. Yet Steve Poizner is very lively. He is also a black belt in karate, although meetings with insurance executives usually does not require that he break out his moves.

This year his speech was more serious and intense. He is running for Governor of California, and I was surprised that he had the evening to himself. His main opponent, eBay CEO Meg Whitman, did not attend. She was invited, and while I have met her before and found her likable, her absence was more than a bit puzzling. Tom Campbell, who is running a dark horse campaign, also did not attend.

With the field cleared for the evening, Commissioner Poizner lit up the crowd.

“I ran a company for twenty years. I worked while the state went off a cliff. I then decided to be part of the solution, so I went into public service.”

“My passion is education. I offered to teach for free in the Bay Area. I was not looking to be compensated. I just wanted to help. The people in the school system looked at me like I was crazy.”

“One woman asked me what qualified me to be a teacher. I told her that I got my MBA at Stanford Business School, I worked in the White House, had a national security clearance, worked on counter-terrorism measures for the National Security Council during the 9/11 crisis, and ran my own company for twenty years. She replied that ‘nothing you have told me qualifies you to be in the classroom.’”

“I called twelve principals, and only one of them called back.”

“I finally ended up teaching in Silicon Valley at Mount Pleasant High School. The school had a leaky roof.”

“Mount Pleasant High School was micromanaged by Sacramento, which tried to apply a one size fits all approach to all 5000 California schools.”

“I started the California Charter School movement.”

“Charter schools don’t have to obey the 2000 page education code.”

“A Poizner administration means that teachers that succeed will get a raise, and those that don’t succeed, we will get rid of.”
“As Insurance Commissioner, I run a 160 billion dollar budget. That is 10% of the California economy.”

“On so many occasions, I asked people in my department, ‘Why are we doing this?’ They would respond, ‘Because we have been doing it this way for fifty years.’ I asked, ‘Does it help anyone?’ They say, ‘no.’ So then I say ‘Then we should stop doing it.’”

“I have 300 police officers in my department. They have arrested over 2000 people for insurance fraud.”

“I began with 1300 people. I reduced our size to 1100 people. I cut 15% of the work force. I am the only person in California to have cut anything.”

“We did not even have a strategic plan until I arrived in this office.”

“We are using our crime fighting division to choke off money that can go to terrorist groups and countries that are funding them.”

“As Insurance Commissioner, I am now taking two key actions. First, I am ordering all California insurance companies to divest from Iran. Second, all insurance companies will be reporting to me exactly what dollars are invested in Iran. This will happen indefinitely. Your hard earned premium dollars will not go to Iran.”

Commissioner Poizner received a thunderous ovation when he was finished.

So far I have not made an endorsement in the Republican primary for Governor of California. As I said earlier, Tom Campbel seems like a real long shot. Ms. Whitman may be the fornt-runner. She is racking up endorsements at a rapid clip, and her emails have been a steady barrage.

However, I would not count out Steve Poizner. Far from it. He is not the sexy choice. Insurance Commissioners, as even he would admit, do not always make people swoon. Yet this is not your father’s Insurance Commissioner.

Steve Poizner is very impressive, and the Republican Jewish Coalition Summer Bash attendees thoroughly benefited from his appearance.

My Conference Call With Senator Jeff Sessions

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

First, a couple of quick notes. I will not be covering the Michael Jackson funeral. This is a political blog, not a pop culture blog. He was an amazing singer who will be missed. While the media is covering his funeral, the Mullahs will continue cracking down in Iran with reckless abandon. Speaking of abandon, the lazy media has abandoned the story, as well as the Americans kidnapped by North Korea. As for the King of Pop, I just pray that the events in Downtown LA do not reach the Westside, because I hate traffic.

Second, I have not said a word about the tragic murder of NFL Quarterback Steve McNair. I will cover that in coming days, but right now all we know about the former leader of the Tennessee Titans is that we don’t know. Speculation and conjecture is for others. Until then, I pray for his family, , and look forward to his Hall of Fame Enshrinement. He absolutely does belong there.

Now on to the main event.

I had the pleasure recently of participating on a conference call with Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Sessions

Senator Sessions is the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. On July 13th, the committee will begin the process of interviewing Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court vacancy created by the retiring David Souter.

The entire conference call was devoted to this one issue.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/26/senior-republican-seeks-more-material-on-sotomayor/

With that, I present some of the remarks of Senator Sessions.

“The key question we will ask is, ‘Will the nominee be faithful to the law?'”

“If American judges believe that they are empowered like European judges believe, that can be a disqualifying factor.”

“Some of her (Sotomayor) decisions are short, and quite frankly, odd.”

“All nine justices felt that she was wrong to deny the firefighters a trial. Five justices voted to reverse her entirely. The other four justices believed that it was premature of her to render a verdict without giving the firefighters a chance to put on their case.”

“The Supreme Court decision in the Ricci case was 100 pages. Her ruling was one paragraph.”

“Some of her decisions are outside the tradition of the American legal system.”

“When judges set policy, that leads to democracy being diminished, and the power of the people being weakened.”

“Every single slot, every seat, on the Supreme Court is important. Some say that because one liberal is replacing another liberal, that this nomination is not critical. Unacceptable views are not ok just because they are replacing someone with unacceptable views.”

Several bloggers asked questions, but I decided to eschew my typical waiting in the background, preferring to ask the first question this time.

“Senator Sessions, thank you for your time. It is an honor to be with you. Regarding the nominee, she seems to be very stealth regarding the issue of abortion. How can we smoke her out so that she reveals views that may anger her natural supporters on the left?”

(I have read reports saying that her silence on the issue is because she may be pro-life. NARAL has not endorsed her. Yet the Senator feels her stealth is for the exact opposite reason.)

“Well she was a on the Puerto Rico Legal Defense and Education Fund. Their briefs show her to be outside the mainstream view on abortion. The New York Times in 1992 pointed out that for 12 years, she was a board member of PURLDEF. The positions they took would be enough to reveal her views.”

Another questioner asked about a recent case involving voting rights for felons.

“People have argued on the issue politically, but some say that even those currently in jail should have the right to vote.”

The next questioner asked about what witnesses would be called to testify at the hearings, and whether the firefighters in the Ricci case would be called.

“I’m not prepared to share names yet. As for the firefighters in the Ricci case, I don’t know that that is something we will expect to do. The Ricci case should be talked about, but our witness list has not been presented yet.”

Another questioner wanted to know if the entire hearings would be a dog and pony show based on the makeup of the Senate in terms of votes. They wanted to know if Senator Sessions could be swayed, or if his mind was made up.

“I’m not going to just go through the motions and listen for the fun of it. Every Senator is free to ask anything they desire. I’m less likely to ask questions that have already been asked by others. That factors into the line of questioning.”

The Senator then briefly mentioned some issues before the court.

“Her speeches are fair game. The Second Amendment is still up in the air after the Heller case. It settled the issue on a national level, but did not give guidance to the states. Local areas may still try and restrict guns. On immigration, affirmative action, and other issues, we need to see where she stands.”

I asked another question.

“Senator, given that the former Senator Barney Fife of Delaware has been bumped from the Judiciary Committee to the Vice Presidency, will we still see ideology as a determining factor in these proceedings?”

(The Senator laughed when I repeated my nickname for Joe Biden, and then gave a thoughtful answer.)

“The question is whether or not ideology should be a factor. Senator Chuck Schumer has said in the past that it absolutely should be. Well we had hearings on this very issue. I considered it one of the most important set of hearings I have ever been a part of. All of the witnesses appearing before us said ‘no.’ Those things should not determine how a judge rules. Judges should be neutral arbiters. Whether Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, a judge should judge fairly. The ideal of a blind justice is the oath a judge takes, that they promise to treat the rich and poor alike. Judge Sotmayor says that this is a hopeless aspiration. She says that male and female judges reaching the same conclusion is aspirational. That is not the American ideal of justice. She appears to have a lack of commitment to impartiality.”

The Senator was incredibly gracious with his time, and I naturally felt the need to ask hi a lighthearted question. Yes, politics is serious, but their is room in life for levity.

“Senator, what are your thoughts on making the Jerry Reed version of the ‘Alabama Jubilee’ our new national anthem?”

The Senator laughed, and liked the idea.

“I’m actually reading a book about Hank Williams right now. I used to love the Alabama Jubilee tv show.”

I responded by saying, “Well great Senator, because hail, hail, the gang’s all here.”

There was laughter all around as the conference call ended.

It was an absolute pleasure interacting with Senator Sessions. The people of Alabama are lucky to have him. With his help, the Sotomayor nomination will not be a cakewalk.

The people have not spoken yet, and Senator Sessions is ready.

Ideological Bigotry Part XXII–The Lynching of Sarah Palin

Monday, July 6th, 2009

For those on the left who take joy out of taking decent conservative Americans and ripping their guts out, offer yourselves congratulations. In the same way your failure to destroy Ronald Reagan led to Dan Quayle getting twice as much abuse, the failure of the left to rip George W. Bush to shreds has led to the stoning of Sarah Palin in the town square.

In a bombshell announcement, Sarah Palin has resigned as Governor of Alaska.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/07/06/new_york_times_barbie_strikes_again_97315.html

While Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty declined to seek reelection in 2010 to focus on building a national presence for 2012, Governor Palin went a step further. She resigned altogether.

The press conference was unscripted and hastily read. When Sarah Palin was done speaking, her supporters and opponents had the same question. Why?

Is there a scandal building along the lines of a marital affair? Does she have a health problem such as cancer? Is there something wrong with her children?

Some described her move as a shrewd political move. If she truly wants to be President, she needs to bone up on her foreign policy credentials. Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are already running. They have the luxury of flexible schedules, with Mr. Huckabee having a built in television audience and Mr. Romney being the wealthiest unemployed man in America.

Sarah Palin perhaps decided that she could not run a state and run for president. There is no shame in this. Bob Dole had to end his 35 year Senate career because juggling became too much. Bob Dole also did not have to raise five children, one of them a special needs child.

In short, Sarah Palin may be Superwoman, but even Superwoman never had to deal with villains as ruthless and vicious as the leftist smear merchants in America today.

The left needs to describe every powerful conservative as either evil, or as a complete imbecile.

Dick Cheney and Newt Gingrich were too intelligent to be seen as imbeciles. Therefore, they were evil. Dan Quayle was too nice and decent a man to be evil. Therefore he had to be an imbecile.

Sarah Palin is a beautiful woman inside and out. She is also a religious Christian. Her election would destroy the feminist grievance mongers in the same way Barack Obama has been the death knell for racial hustlers Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Until feminists learn that a woman can be pro-life and still be a feminist, the movement will continue to be seen as a bunch of unattractive, over the hill, man-hating hags.

Sarah Palin is a hockey mom and a hunter. She eats moose stew. She is also a former beauty queen, another reason radical feminists despise her.

Yet Sarah Palin also has something else in common with George W. Bush and Dan Quayle. She is a human being. She is a creature of God that simply wants to be treated with dignity. The concept of treating political opponents with dignity is totally lost on the left. The same bullies that took down Robert Bork took glee in Borking Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin said that she stepped down as Governor of Alaska because she has had enough. The abuse has been relentless. The 15 investigations, of which almost all have been dismissed, have been draining her resources. She can make more money in the private sector than she can running Alaska under the media glare. Maybe she saw her critics and said, “Who needs this?”

If that is the case, she might wish to decline to run for president. Politics, as the cliche goes, ain’t beanbag.

If she is perceived as a quitter, she may be done.

The exact reasons of her departure from the governorship are currently shrouded in mystery.

Yet what is no mystery is that the abuse she has received goes far beyond anything political. She has been called a slutty flight attendant, and been accused of being the mother of the child that is actually her granddaughter. Her daughters have been verbally assaulted for no reason other than that they love their mother.

Enough is enough is enough is enough is enough.

Sarah Palin will soon be a private citizen. I pray that she gets the peace of mind that all private citizens are entitled to receiving.

The lynching of conservatives must stop. The verbal suicide bombers on the left must stop.

The ideological bigotry must stop.

If it does not, payback against the liberals will be bloody, as they reap what they sowed.

RJC in Santa Monica

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Several days ago I had the pleasure of attending the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Summer Bash in Santa Monica, California.

http://www.rjchq.org/Newsroom/newsdetail.aspx?id=790a24ea-b940-4eea-b889-0221a1ca9d37

The Loews Hotel was the scene for a great night of food, socializing, politics, and all around great speeches.

On the national scene, South Dakota Senator and possible 2012 presidential contender John Thune offered his common sense prairie wisdom. The Sacramento Queen and I enjoyed meeting him and taking our picture with him.

On the state scene, California Insurance Commissioner and GOP gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner gave a passionate speech that offered some new policy initiatives regarding Iran.

In Hollywood news, Actor John Ratzenberger, famous for playing postal worker Cliff Clavin on “Cheers,” gave a rousing speech about his Nuts and Bolts Foundation, and the need to become a nation of manufacturers again.

In more Hollywood news, illness prevented comedian Jonathan Winters from entertaining the crowd. He is resting comfortably at his home. Filling in quite ably at the last minute was conservative comedian Evan Sayet. Evan broke out some new material, which was well received.

New media was given more prominence than ever at an RJC function, as an entire blogger table was set up. While some typed away on keyboards to send out immediate reviews, I remained the dinosaur that took notes by hand using a pen and paper. My coverage of this event will be as extensive as the event itself was spectacular. In the mean time, Roger L. Simon of Pajamas Media produced a video compilation of several interviews he did with people at the event. I was one of the interviewees.

http://www.pjtv.com/video/Pajamas_TV/Not_All_Jews_Are_Liberals_-_Republican_Jewish_Coalition_2009_Summer_Bash/2100/

The Master of Ceremonies was RJC Leader Ron Plotkin. I like Ron because he has suits and ties of varying pastel colors that put the guys from Miami Vice to shame. On this night he and I both went with more moderate, subdued outfits, but you can’t keep snappy dressers conservative for long, even if their politics are conservative.

Other notable attendees included actor Orson Bean, and Congressional candidate Ari David. Ari is running to replace Henry Waxman, who I have downgraded to Waxboy due to his childish decisions with regards to policy.

As for policy, the event was heavy on policy and politics. However, this was an event that put the party in Republican Party. The Fall of 2009 will feature many political battles. This makes it even more vital to have a celebratory Summer while we still can.

The RJC lit up Santa Monica, and rather than say any more, I would simply encourage all of you to attend next year.

If you ask nicely, I might wear one of my Miami Vice suits instead of the basic banker black.

233 Years and Beautiful–America Remains Great in 2009

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Happy 233 America!

The Tygrrrr Express is in Sacramento.

The Sacramento Queen and I will visit the beautiful island of Rio Linda, where Mt. Rush Limbaugh got his start. There were fireworks extravaganzas last night in from Downtown San Diego to the Washington State Northern border, and out Eastward to Maine and Key West, Florida. The Sacramento Queen and I will then watch the fireworks tonight in Sacramento Queen and much of her family before making it back to the City of Angels on Sunday. Naturally of course, there will be tea parties, including one at the state capitol.

I know what July 4th means to me. Independence Day is special. Before offering my own wistfulness, I would rather let some of the finest people associated with the finest military in the world offer their heartfelt sentiments. Without these brave heroes, the miracle that began in 1776 would be paler by comparison. Below are their July 4th memories, and what Independence Day means to them.

ADMIRAL LEIGHTON SNUFFY SMITH

A simple answer: I think of what our forefathers sacrificed so that we could be free to work, pray and socialize as we wished. I think of Bosnia, and how I saw many people die for those very same things. I think of Iraq and Afghanistan and the number of people doing the same. We are so very lucky to have what we have yet we seldom seem to understand just what we do have in comparison to the rest of the world.

SS

RETIRED SOLDIER AND CONSERVATIVE BLOGGER SNOOPER

What does the 4th of July mean to me?

It means the Spirit of American Freedom reigns supreme throughout the world and that the vast majority of Americans, when the chips are down, will do whatever it takes to remain free.

It reminds me that when facing odds seemingly stacked against us, we as a nation will always rise to the top.

Currently, I reside in the GREAT Republic of Texas as does my son who has recently returned from the War In Iraq. I am a retired DAV and have served my nation since 1976.

As Francis Scott Key was writing our National Anthem, I can only imagine the sight of which he beheld. Every time I myself returned across The Wire and caught a glimpse of our Flag flying, chills traveled up and down my spine and that experience remains with me to this day. The American Flag represents that which millions of others wish they had. Why else is it that millions try to get to the United States and millions are not trying to leave?

July 4th, to me, represents that which no other country in the world has…True Freedom. And I and millions like me are more than willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for our way of life, politics be damned.

COLONEL AL FRACKER

Our family vacation was always spent “up north” in a one-room cabin in the woods on the 4th of July. So, when someone mentions the 4th of July, my very first thought is standing next to a bonfire by Nichols Lake in mid Michigan, the smoky scent of hot dogs tantalizing my nose and irritating my eyes. The words “freedom” and “independence” were thrown around as my Dad and relatives drank beer, ate, and retreated from long days working in a factory or climbing poles for Consumer Power Company, but those words meant little to me, as I was born free.

Ten years later, and the 4th of July meant so much more. I thought of my older brother who was born on July 2nd, the day the Declaration of Independence was signed, and how proud he was at 17 to be a Marine. Some say he died a needless death attacking the city of Hue. Three days after learning of his death, we received a letter from him describing a huge beetle he found that he wanted to add to our insect collection, and as a side note, he said not to worry because he was happy promoting freedom in a different land. Naïve? Maybe so, but poignant nonetheless.

My first official day in the Army was July 2nd, 1972, and following a two day bus trip, I remember vividly the physical pain of push-ups, gorilla stomps, inverted crawls, and grass drills executed on the 4th of July. The utter frustration of being powerless on the receiving end of verbal and physical abuse highlighted the paradox, “one must lose freedom to gain freedom”… in other words, much like the song, “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone”.

Fast forward another 35 years, and I’m part cynic and part optimist. The cynic laments our public’s concept of freedom on this special day and latches onto cautionary excerpts sent from a friend. A Scottish History professor from University of Edinburgh in 1787 cites: “A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by dictatorship.” He describes the cycle as, “from bondage to spiritual faith…from spiritual faith to great courage…from great courage to liberty…from liberty to abundance…from abundance to complacency…from complacency to apathy…from apathy to dependence…from dependence back into bondage”.

The optimist in me suggests this 4th of July will mean the same to me now as it did almost fifty years ago. We’ll build a fire and scrounge up some hot dogs. I’ll remember the coolness of the lake, my Dad’s strong laugh, and Uncle Joe losing his false teeth while water skiing…not once, but two years running. And these innocent memories will be accompanied kindly by a depth of convictions, experience, and reality…convictions of faith and service to my God, family, and country… experience of seeing what the lack of hope and freedom does to people, and the reality that each person can and must make a difference. Being free is a daily commitment, whether home, on the road, or in some foreign country. I didn’t choose to be free – I was born free, and I am committed to die that way. I will be surrounded by Soldiers who wrote a blank check to the American people, a check payable with their lives, who are living JFK’s aged yet appropriate appeal to the public: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. With these men on the 4th of July, I will be hopeful for a free Iraq, and more importantly, a continued freedom within the United States, and we’ll pretend there’s a lake, Uncle Joe’s false teeth, and beer on the other side of the berm.

Al Fracker
COL, IN
16th Iraqi MITT
Team Chief

LANCE CORPORAL JOHN BIVONA

For me, the Fourth of July is not just about sparklers (but man, they’re fun) and corn on the cob (no one can eat just one.). Nor is it about hot dogs, although tofu pops and smart dogs make delicious meat free ones. Please look for them at your local retail food store. I like Whole Foods. It’s my source for all the vegan organic goodness that plumps the 140 pound community of cells I call moi.

Having served as a marine in Operation Desert Storm/Shield, Independence Day takes on an even greater symbolism, as is the case for most U.S. servicemen and women. Pride, honor, tradition, heritage, corn on the cob (Sorry, I guess I am hungry)…The tenacious and bold spirit that was necessary to overcome our old world oppressors is still very much alive today. The fireworks serve as a visual reminder of the beauty in finding independence from those who put unnecessary burdens on us.

The universe rewards bold action coupled with intelligence. We had a plan. We put it into effect. Fast forward 200 years. Wal-Marts and America Idol. It sure beats Little House on the Prairie. Well, not really. Laura Ingalls, you go girl!

My mission this 4th…my plan…seek and destroy all organic corn on their cobs. Eliminate all kernels from their oppressive cobs. I will provide them independence. Fear not America. Meat free hot dogs eaten with an independent spirit my newly straightened chompers. Oohrah! Hey, where’s the relish? Go vegan. Break your chains. See what lies beyond.

LEE SORENSEN

The 4th of July always means to me one thing: The Flag.

We all know the history of our founders and their role in building our country. We even know the history of our flag. But when I see our Flag, I stop and give thanks to all the things this country has given me and done for me. It makes me want to give back to America all I can in the spirit of the last line of our Declaration of Independence,

“we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor”.

Most of us can not even begin to imagine the horrors our Military saw in Vietnam, World War 2 or the U.S. Civil War. The only thing I can do is honor those who fought for the people that could not help themselves, is by serving my country in the Military. To a lot of us it makes no matter if the war is in Iraq or Iowa, we just give to our country. Sometimes with our life.

One day in the far future I hope, a Flag will drape my coffin. It will be the proudest day of my life and wish all who see that flag know, it is the same exact flag that draped my father’s coffin as a WW2 vet, and my grandfathers as a WW1 vet. Although I will be there I wish I could see it, but you can bet I will be smiling.

So when you see Our Flag anywhere think of all the people that would defend you with their life, just because you are an American.

Lee S.

Balad, Iraq

As for me, I love the music. From Bruce Springsteen singing about Glory Days to John Mellencamp offering a story about Pink Houses, the music stays with me. John Fogerty reminds us that not everybody is a Fortunate Son.

Lee Greenwood singing God Bless the USA never fails to make me well up with emotion.

Yet for those that want to see the glory of America, I take you back in time. The place is Coney Island in Brooklyn. The year is 2007. (Update: Joey Chestnut has done it again, winning in 2009 for his third straight victory.)

http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=hotdogeatingcontest070409&prov=ap&type=lgns

On July 4th, American supremacy continues, especially in Brooklyn
“Lady Liberty is shining her beacon of freedom all over the world today, but primarily in the greatest city in the world, Brooklyn, New York.
The rest seems unimportant.
What is relevant is the real story in the news today coming out of Brooklyn, in a small area called Coney Island. Coney Island is the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Boardwalk, and the original Nathans hot dog stand from 1916. Nathans hot dogs are not only the greatest hot dogs in the world, but also the home of the world famous hot dog eating contest. For the last 6 years, Japanese winner Takeru Kobayashi reigned like the Lance Armstrong of competitive eating. Not today! Not in 2007.
“NEW YORK — American Joey Chestnut broke the world hot-dog eating record Wednesday at the annual Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, downing 66 franks to beat six-time defending champ Takeru Kobayashi.” (story courtesy of Fox News)
In the 1980s, there was a growing fear that America was no longer number one, that the Japanese were replacing us. They bought Rockefeller Center. The American decline was premature, until the 21st century. Six straight Japanese wins at Coney Island left Americans questioning their greatness. Were we becoming a nation of tofu vegetarians, unable to compete? Not since the disastrous 1983 America’s Cup sailing loss have we been so low. Today, supremacy has returned. Joey Chestnut has brought the yellow hot dog belt back to the USA.
“The two gustatory gladiators quickly distanced themselves from the rest of the 17 competitors, processing more beef than a slaughterhouse within the first few minutes. The two had each downed 60 hot dogs with 60 seconds to go when Chestnut — the veins on his forehead extended — put away the final franks to end Kobayashi’s reign.”
First the British thought that they were better than us. Yet if memory serves, it was Pete Sampras that kept winning the British open in Tennis. Tiger Woods does the same in golf. The Germans? Please. Did Detlef Schrempf win anything? What about Dirk Nowitzki? The Russians have not been the same since the 1980 Olympic hockey game, which led to the the Berlin Wall crashing down. Canada? Are you kidding me. The Mighty Ducks brought the might of America another victory.
The Japanese were not going to defeat us in World War II, which lasted six years. Their domination of the Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest lasted six years. This is no coincidence.
Yes, there are ultra serious issues concerning July 4th. It is a day about freedom, liberty, democracy, and all things red, white and blue. This column has repeatedly emphasized the pride I feel being American, and how I wish I could shake every soldier’s hand for allowing me to focus on hot dog eating contests while they handle trivial matters such as saving my life. I well up when I hear Lee Greenwood sing “God Bless the USA.” I get fired up when Toby Keith sings about putting a “boot up the @ss” of the bad guys who wish America harm. Bruce Springsteen does sing about “Born in the USA,” but I think “Glory Days,” is a great metaphor. Ours are continuing. I even find solace in the American dream expressed in John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses,” although not everyone gets that pink house. At least they have a shot.
Some will try to paint today as a day for fat, lazy, stupid American slobs to overindulge in food. Yet if we are such awful people, why does everybody worldwide want to live here? Americans are good people, and we have been blessed. Our indulgences are our way of expressing our blessing. We give generously to other nations, and we are generous with ourselves. As we should be.
I am not Joey Chestnut. I will not be eating 63 hot dogs today, although if I could, I would. I vacation twice a year in Coney Island, where my grandparents reside, along with other family members. When I see my friends, we take that magical trip to the Boardwalk, where the Fireworks go off every weekend during the summer, and the Nathans hot dogs taste fantastic.
So whether it be sports heroes, such as Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth or Joey Chestnut, captains of industry such as Jack Welch or Donald Trump, or the fine heroes of our military, just remember what America truly is. We are high achievers. We strive to be the best. We work hard, play by the rules, and truly believe in the noble greatness of the individual. America is sometimes down, but we have repeatedly been counted out, and those counters have been repeatedly wrong.
To explain American success, I turn to one of my favorite Brooklyn people, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. In 1983, after winning another Superbowl, as he held the Lombardi Trophy, he was asked about what it took to achieve success. “First, you start out with great coaches. Then you get great players. Then you have a great organization. You go out and tell them one thing…Just Win Baby!”
Americans are winners. Other nations trash talk. We go about our business. When you are the best, the results speak for themselves.
July 4th is a celebration of b*tchslapping those who tried to harm us. So while I pray for the safety of our soldiers, I also pray that they b*tchslap some terrorists off the face of the Earth. They do that job brilliantly.
So as we light Roman Candles tonight, and wave those American flags sky high, let’s be thankful and grateful that we truly do live in the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
May God bless America, Brooklyn, and soldiers everywhere defending our freedoms.
Nice job Joey Chestnut. Way to bring home the yellow belt.”

Yet July 4th is about even more than the glory of that Brooklyn day. July 4th is about America the Beautiful, and nobody sings that better than the late Ray Charles.

“America…I’m talkin’ ’bout America…God done shed grace on thee…”

I would end this by saying God Bless the USA, but based on the last 233 years, he already has.

A happy and peaceful July 4th to you all. May your fireworks shine bright, your flags wave sky high, and your loved ones be close, happy, and safe.

National Security Talk With Frank Gaffney

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Several weeks ago I attended a discussion about missile defense put on by the Israel Missile Defense Association and the Claremont Institute. Children of Holocaust Survivors co-sponsored the event.

https://tygrrrrexpress.com/2009/04/the-israel-missile-defense-association-forum/

The event at the Luxe Hotel was such a sobering and brilliant experience that a sequel was necessary.

Several days ago the Luxe was once again the site of an eye opening foreign policy analysis that contained a heavy dose of discussion about missile defense.

Avi Schnur repeated his lecture on missile defense. The link above contains his remarks, so repetition is not necessary.

Another speaker was a brigadier general whose name I shall leave out. He requested that he be off the record, and I will as always honor that request. He did give me permission to repeat a couple of lighthearted jokes that he told, in addition to other perfunctory remarks. Specifics will be avoided. While they do not do the program justice, they were still enjoyable.

“Somebody saw me dressed in a suit and tie tonight and asked, ‘Who the hell are you, a congressman?””

“I found a box in my closet containing three eggs and a bunch of money. I asked my wife about it, and she explained that every time I gave a bad speech, she put an egg in the box. Three eggs in 32 years is not bad, but then I asked what the money was for. She replied that when she collected enough eggs, she sold them.”

“There has been a complete lack of coordination between the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.”

“I just came back from Iraq 48 hours ago to find illegal aliens in my backyard. That was surreal, and made for an interesting conversation.”

“Not every act is preventable.”

“There are several bad actors around the world. There are several areas of global concern Russia is at the top of the list. They are recidivist fundamentally.”

“Next comes China, Yet the last three decades has been declared the decade of the Pacific Rim. Howeever, right now China is preoccupied.”

“This brings us to North Korea. They are as unusual and strange a regime we will ever see. We will not get out arms around them. We will not figure them out.”

“With Pakistan, we have to deal with a strategy that works from the outside in, the same as North Korea.”

“India has a hugely unstable relationship with us due to Pakistan. Our relationship with India is vastly improved thanks to our previous administration, but it is still a dangerous part of the world.”

“Iran is trying to suppress dissent, but the flow of information is continuing. However, it is not always reliable. When policy decisions in America based on Twittered tweets, that is faulty because the information cannot be validated. While much of the information may be true, there is an old axiom that two idiots using technology are still two idiots.”

“Iran has another problem, which is that Sunni Arabs will rally against Iran.”

While the brigadier general mixed in some humor with his serious remarks, the real seriousness of the evening came from Frank Gaffney.

http://www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org/index.xml

Frank Gaffney runs the Center for Security Policy.

There are too many children making decisions in this world. Frank Gaffney is an adult. He is one of the world’s foremost experts on national security.

I kept his remarks condensed because I want every American to attend his lecture live. His primary emphasis is on EMP, which stands for Electromagnetic Pulse.

He is also the brains behind the movie “Islam versus Islamists,” and the book “War Footing.”

With that, I offer the thoughtful wisdom of Frank Gaffney.

“Many in America are concerned with global warming. Let me tell you that solar flares over America will really heat things up.”

“Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that ‘A world without the United States is desirable and achievable.'”

“In Toronto, unique solar activity in 1985 hurt the city. Canadian authorities feverishly tried to get the power back on before resorting to the contingency action of ordering an evacuation of the city. At least they had evacuation as an option. Today in cities across America, that might not be the case.”

“Either those that are spending 20 billion dollars on updating the electrical grid either take electromagnetic aspects into account, or face charges of malfeasance when the next generation electrical grid fails.”

“Senator Joe Lieberman and Congressman Benny Thompson get it.”

“I is imperative that the Electromagnetic Pulse Threat Commission be reauthorized.”

“We worry about Kim Jong Il and Ahmadinejad, but what about what we cannot prevent? It could be Mother Nature that damages our electrical grid. Picture Hurricane Katrina times one thousand.”

“In 1992, the United States of America stopped worrying about nuclear threats.”

“Even the military does not have the resiliency on this issue that it once did.”

“There is also COTS, Commercial Off The Shelf technology. Civilians do not think about this.”

“North Korea, China, and Russia are doing nuclear tests. Iran will. We don’t.”

“Missile defense won’t stop solar flares, but it will protect us from missile attacks.”

“We need long range missile interceptors. President Obama cut funding for them.”

“We need a complete comprehensive rethinking of of Electromagnetic Pulse.”

Frank Gaffney is not a partisan gunslinger. He sees threats to our way of life, and wants politicians of both parties to do what they are elected to do above everything else, which is to keep us safe.

We need to listen to Frank Gaffney. Then we need to act.

Sacramento Bound

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Train, Train…lord take me on out of this town…

Train, Train…lord take me on out of this town…

That woman I’m in love with…lord I’m Sacramento bound…

The song Train Train, originally written by Shorty Medlock and covered by rock group Warrant, was actually about a romance in Memphis. The Sacramento Queen don’t live there. She sure don’t.

I am taking a train all the way from Los Angeles to Sacramento to see the woman and meet more of the fam.

For those who remember the song “My baby wrote me a letter,” this guy said to “give me a ticket for an aeroplane…ain’t got time to take a fast train.”

Well I am not spending $300 for a one hour flight. The airline industry are a bunch of crooks. Spare me the hard luck economy rebuttal. Airlines have always, and will always, suck.

So I am hopping all aboard Amtrak, since the Orient Express, by definition alone, does not begin or end in Los Angeles.

I have a buddy who works for Amtrak, and it seems to be one of the few public entities that functions properly.

I may stop by the capital to take in some tea parties, but given how broke California is, it may just be a hot water party. I can live with that. I hate tea anyway. The Sacramento Queen likes it, so I will say no more.

For now, I will leave you all with my typical lack of eloquence. I look forward to the day when we can shove Roman Candles up the Mullahs’ hides until they go to the toilet red, white, and blue. Then just to show my Jewish pride, hanging Israeli flags from their genitals would be a nice way to introduce them to Little Satan.

I shall continue to cling to my guns and my religion, although I am not sure they are allowed on the train. After all, Amtrak is a government entity, and religion is expressly forbidden in the bloodthirsty quest to inflict secularism everywhere. I heard that atheists were running around stamping the letter “N” (for non-believer) on the forehead of religious people in the name of religious people.

Anyway, I have plenty of other musings on this multi-hour train ride. Most of the time I will be thinking that airline executives should all be jailed.

Then I will drift off into what I usually think about…hamburgers and hot dogs.

I look forward to a healthy taste of freedom this weekend, and thank almighty God for shedding Grace on America.

Actually, as Ray Charles said, God done shed his grace on thee.

Have a safe and sane weekend all.

Then show up on time to work Monday.

After all, we are not lazy Europeans. We are Americans.

The Tygrrrr Express is now Sacramento Bound
