Homeward Bound Sunday

After several days in Florida and then Oklahoma City, it is time to get back home to Los Angeles. Speaking to the National Republican Women’s Federated was enjoyable, but now it is time for another enjoyment, sleeping in my own bed.

Therefore, today is some very quick NFL 2010 musings regarding offseason comings and goings.

The Carolina Panthers cutting Jake Delhomme is sad. Not only did he deserve one more year to turn it around, but watching John Fox cry when announcing his release makes me think that maybe the release was premature.

The Chargers cutting Ladanian Tomlinson was expected, but he would be a good fit with the Vikings to replace the departed Chester Taylor.

Taylor seemed to be chasing dollars. I think if you have a chance to win it all, you stay with that team. The Vikings, with Favre back, are title contenders.

The Bears had better be contenders or their will be mass housecleaning. Between Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor, Jay Cutler has help on both sides of the ball. The biggest addition was Mike Martz as offensive coordinator. If Cutler fails, Lovie Smith is gone. A healthy Brian Urlacher would help immensely.

The Raiders were right to retain rights to Bruce Gradkowski. He can play.

The Jets releasing Thomas Jones surprised me. He runs for hard, tough yards. He reminded me of Curtis Martin and Lamont Jordan in terms of grit. He seems to fit with the smashmouth Rex Ryan attitude. It will be interesting to see what transpires for the Jets and him going forward.

Anyway, these are brief musings. I have a plane to catch.

Home sweet home awaits.

  1. Last I heard the Jets were picking up Tomlinson.

I agree about Gradkowski. If not a starter, he’ll make a very good back-up. Anything’s better than Russell.

I feel sorry for Delhomme, getting stuck with the Browns. Ouch.

    yeah,
and right now Lindasy Lohan is getting an extra stitch thrown in. So what what ?

Sorry, I appreciate the attention footbal gets.
But there just no comparison to the face to face one on one combat that two martial artist can impose on each other.
It makes Ameican football look like nothing more than a bunch of queerfs wearing shoulder pads,
Sorry, I know Erics passion for the game, and I appreciatte it.
But I’m sorry, if you want to get really down to it, take away all the padding, all the effectivness of this player, this year, up against whatever….
The truth of a real athlete lays in his ability to go one on one with a man and “WALK” away from it, no limp, no wiggle in his apperance.
Wanna see a real athlete ?
Football , American style aint nothin but pu$$y politics

  3. Wow. Where did that come from?

I used to watch boxing, but it just isn’t the same anymore. It’s not the “gentlemen’s sport” it once was. That martial arts “ultimate fighting” stuff is just plain nasty. I can’t stomache it. It must be pretty fake too, because people don’t just “walk” away from fights like that. In real life, a bare-fisted all-out fight between two expert pugilists would end in about 5 seconds and there’s a good chance someone would die. Heck, most fights I’ve seen or been involved with ended in the first punch. Watching two men beat each other is gay and sociopathic. In the end, it’s the Colleseum all over again. I think it’s a sign of a society in decline. Sorry, Micky, but that kind of fighting is just plain primitive, animalistic nastiness for the entertainment of rabble.

Football has it all. It’s real (that’s why they wear all those pads, lest they’d be killing each other on every play too). It’s a true team sport, requiring selfless dedication to the unit. It’s heady and requires deep strategy, like a living game of chess. It requires tremendous atheleticism (many football players are also dancers, martial artists, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf players, you name it). It requires a vast array of different skill sets for different positions. It’s like a wargame. I can’t imagine not loving football!

Didn’t you play football when you were a kid? Even just with your freinds in a lot? Those are some of my fondest memories from growing up. Heck, I kept playing until I was 25 years old! The last thing I want to remember is violent fights. That just brings back memories of sleazy hicks brawling in the school yard.

Unfortunatly, Eric will find upon his return to California,
Republican candidates embroiled in intra-party fighting.

What they don’t understand is that we Republicans are only 31% of
    registered voters in the state.

We have to pick up substantial amounts of others, to win the
governorship or senate for that matter.

The Republicans have been portrayed as the party of the well-heeled
and corporate interests. The Democrats tell us that they are for Joe
Sixpack, the average guy on the street.

In a state like California (very blue) this line sells.

It’s about numbers guys…and I’m afraid we still don’t have it.
But, we must never give up, our state and nations future is at stake.

    Thanks much.

  5. No matter what they do, the GOP can’t run a hard-right ideologue and win in California. If they do that, they’re gonna have the return of Governor Brown. I like Jerry Brown, though, so I hope the GOP runs a rightwingnut!
