One day before 9/11, the only leader that comes to my mind is former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
One year ago, on Tuesday, 9/11, 2007, Rudy Giuliani gave a rousing speech at Sean Hannity’s 9/11 Freedom Concert in New York. Actually it was at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, but that counts as New York. I backed him for President, and hope he is given serious candidate for Attorney General or Secretary of Defense in a John McCain administration.

I met him a couple weeks later, and was thrilled to see and hear a true leader.

Rudy Giuliani came out fighting, and decked the democrats right across their Kumbaya singing, surrender loving faces.

As 9/10 of 2008 turns into another 9/11, I mourn the loss of my fellow New Yorkers. I thank almighty God that some men such as George W. Bush, John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani are actually willing to do something about making sure that those that committed this act, financed this act, or contributed to worldwide terrorism in any way, are brought to justice.
For those that are not still enraged, go look at the hole in the ground. I will see it again in a couple weeks, and well up with anger.
This is the world we live in. Violent Radical Islamofacism is the beiggest threat that faces the world today. Nothing comes a close second.
It must be eradicated, one murderous zealot at a time.
Nothing less is acceptable.
Rudy Giuliani understands this.
His speech may hurt the feelings of some people.
Those people mean nothing to me. I want their feelings hurt.
One thing has not changed. Rudy Giuliani remains right.

I have fond memories of that neighborhood and the people I used to know around there.
The towers were my first inspiration as to how really great this country is.
I used to go to the observation deck often and look around in totall amazement.
Those bastards took that way from me.
But my loss in no comparison to what happened to the thousands there that day.
I will drop a note in Gods box for all of them.

Unlike most of my liberal friends, I was never a big detractor of Giuliani. I think part of the reason for that is because I saw the real changes Giuliani brought to the sorts of neighborhoods in which most of his liberal detractors would never dare set foot. On the other hand, I was not a big fan of the way he handled 9/11 and later used it to propel his political career.
As for his tangible handling of 9/11, he should never have stationed his emergency response team so close to a famous target for international terrorists in the first place. That was a huge mistake. Also, he should have been much more careful with the post-9/11 emergency response. Those rescue and clean-up workers should have ALL been wearing face-maskes and other such environmental protection gear. Politically, he did a great job. Administratively, I would grade him with a generous “C” at best.
As for the way he parlayed 9/11 into the furtherance of his political career – well… I find it just plain abhorant. And the way he moved to the political Right after 9/11 was conspicuously cynical. Remember, the first time he ran for mayor he didn’t even use the word “Republican” on his various campaign letterheads and slogans. The second time he used “Liberal Republican,” which would have been an oxymoron were it not for the fact that he did run far to the Left of mainstream national republicans. (I might be mixing up the two elections) Truth be told, Rudy Giuliani was always a Daddy State conservative and a laizzez faire social liberal. That’s why he never stood a chance at winning the GOP nomination.
Now let’s take some of his comments…

What the …. is that supposed to mean? What’s wrong with being a community organizer? That’s was a creepy comment.

It’s funy that he mentioned this because it just goes to prove that Obama is a mainstream moderate Democrat. I know the innuendo here is that Obama is crooked, but his record shows no corruption on his part and what little connections to the more crooked side of “Chicago machine politics” appear to be negligible.

This is just sleazy and stupid. Obama was running for president. If Giuliani were running for president during the same period while he was senator I’m sure his record on that count would be similar.

One thing you can say for Giuliani is that he’s a hard worker. He rarely ever took a vacation when he was the mayor. On the other hand, he never ran for any other office during that time. The man is a pile of energy, which might explain his famous libido. On the other hand, that same famous libido puts Bill Clinton to shame. Giuliani was fooling around on the job. There’s something to say about that, but I won’t bother to say it because you cons have already said it thousands of times over when it comes to pols who happen not to be republicans.

Really? I thought rattling John McCain comes rather easy. He’s kind of famous for that. I’ve followed his career for years and believe me – the man rattles easily. Even members of his own party have said the man frightens them. he’s known for flying of the hook and cussing all red-faced and angry when things don’t go his way. I don’t know about Rudy, but for me McCain is a little frightening as well.
