Barack Obama? No, forget him. With all respect to Evander Holyfield, I am talking about Michael “The Real Deal” Steele, the new Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
It is one thing for the President to be black. Now we can say that the President and the leader of the opposition are also black. In addition, with Michael Steele we can celebrate the fact that along with his affable personal style, there is actually substance.

Unlike the democrats, who judge people by the color of their skin, my affinity for Michael Steele is solely based on the content of his character. He is a true Reagan conservative that happens to be black.
I would not care if he was blue as Papa Smurf or as Green as Hillary (envy) or Barack (inexperience). Michael Steele wants to cut taxes to grow the economy. Yet in addition to being right on most issues, he has the one quality that has been missing from the Grumpy Old Party lately…likability.
Go back to every single Presidential campaign since the modern era of television in 1960. The guy that people were more likely to drink a beer and watch a ballgame with one the election.
Conservatism works. Liberalism fails. Yet optimism sells. Reagan had the ideology and the affability.
Times are tough, and delivering harsh messages of responsibility will not work without a true dose of empathy. While I believe in “suck it up,” as an individual, that is not message that sells politically. To do good things, you have to get elected first. The GOP has finally removed its head from its elephant hide.
Michael Steele is a good man, and the best choice the party could have possibly made for its leadership.
He also has a great sense of humor. When I interviewed him, I pointed out that the GOP had Michael Steele and the liberals had Barack Obama. Obviously, the left is bigoted against the follically challenged. Mr. Steele pointed to his own head, and vowed that those without the crop on top absolutely could make it to the top. Well he was right, and as we all know, a fabulous head of hair cannot mask a lack of substance underneath.
Now we need to rally around him Mr. Steele. He was one of the only people (along with myself) who had the spine to be against the bailout from the very beginning. Now he is taking on a dreadful “spendulus” bill (Thank you Andrea Tantaros for that slogan).
The left canot exist without despising somebody on the right, and nobody makes for derision like a minority conservative. George W. Bush is gone, and Sarah Palin was the perfect whipping girl. Yet a black conservative…a dream demonization tool. Just ask Clarence Thomas.
So get ready to hear that Michael Steele is the devil. As he has warned us, he will be accused of hating puppies. Well he likes puppies.
So go ahead liberals. Attack this man personally. He will smile, and then kick your liberal hides.
Yes President Obama, I am totally comfortable with a black leader. I just want one who is not wrong about every issue that matters to me.

Boy would I love to share some of the asinine comments I came across that came from the left the day Mr. Steele was elected.
Of course out of respect I wont post them but I will say that the hypocrisy on the left came to surface on that day like Mt. St. Helens.
The typical 12 year old knee jerk reaction was that Steele is the cons answer to the black man that took the office and that as soon as Obama won the presidency we went in search of a “happy negro” to represent the right.
But really, anyone who thinks past that level and knows anything about Steele doesn’t make that stop on the way to the conclusion that he represents a way of thinking that the cons have needed for a while.

Michael is young, has fresh ideas that while outside the traditional box still adhere to the basic principles of conservatism.
Unlike Obama who was elected basically out of hatred for Bush ( who couldn’t even run again if he wanted to) along with his color, because we needed to show the world how diverse we could be, Steele was elected to his position simply for the fact that he has been propelling conservatism in a fresh light longer than Obama has even been in politics.

Yeah- I resemble that remark too- I play banjo and some country western guitar. I also play heavy metal, classical, and folk. And I’m most definitely not a Christian.

I realize no disrespect was intended, Mickey, but we need to be careful not to single people out for their looks, lifestyle choices, or musical abilities.
Awhile back I used to work for the LA Chamber Orchestra. We had a formal board meeting/dinner at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles, in the Reagan Room, a very nice room with pictures of President Reagan all over. One of the board members came up and starting talking to me about how ill the room was making her feel, only to find out I was (at the time) a member of the Republican party. We ended up having a nice discussion about our differences. Admittedly, conservatives working in the non profit arts are a rarity, but it was nice to have a pleasant discussion about our differences.
It’s amazing how people think they are “liberated” and “diverse” yet still hold on to subconscious bigotries. I’ve been dragged from my car by police before and searched for no other reason than I have long hair and wear black. People ask me about drug use all the time- I’ve never done any illegal drugs in my life. People assume I’m some kind of liberal hippy because I have long hair.
I hope you’re right about Michael Steele, Eric. I really do. Not that I expect it to do much good. I have very little hope left for my country.

First, I admit to being your typical school liberal when I was in high school and college. After all, my teachers were. Then something happened, I started working and noticed that the more I earned, the more taxes I paid. It’s called the voluntary system of paying taxes…unless of course you “fail to file a return” or refuse or neglect to pay your taxes.
Then all hell breaks loose. The IRS sends notices, one or more depending on the type of tax, payroll vs income, for example. If it’s “Trust fund tax” ( withheld on salaries), look out., the next step is a levy, lien, perhaps a summons, and in a few instances, a visit by the CID special agent (criminal tax division cop). To repeat what my accounting teacher told us years ago,
watch out for them..they are your enemy..their task is to put you in
a federal prison, by hook or crook.
Anyway, I do make ES payments, not alway timely however, which then results in a notice giving me 10 days to pay or else face the music, on the penalty assessed. I can live with that however. No big deal.
I voted for the Republican candidate for President these past 3 elections.
I do receive almost weekly solicitations both by email, and snail
mail, for contributions to the Republican National Committee, some of them signed by Mr. Steele lately.
But then again, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama has done exactly what
John McCain had campaigned on. So maybe the Democrats won’t be
so bad. Only time and my dwindling stock portfolio will tell.
Our troops will be in Iraq until they are no longer needed, with
troops withdrawn transferred to the much harsher environment
(and dangerous) terrain of Afghanistan., which now is getting center
stage and considered in testimony before Congress, the most
immediate enemy of US.
I wonder what the students in Berkeley will say when their messiah

for our lavish and irresponsible lifestyles (I rent my apartment and have
no debts) for decades (plus interest).
Isn’t it truly astonishing that the two most “Blue” states have budget shortfalls of over 40 billion each., thanks partly to their wanting to
help everyone out of a jam.
But they know that sooner or later, the new world order, envisioned
by the Democrats, will come through for them.
In New York State, this will mean highter state taxes on the wealthy,
and in California, increases in sales taxes, lay-offs and reductions
in aid to the most needy.
I have only one more thing to say, “Get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN” That will save US billions.
