Just Another Manic Monday (In New York)

Monday, January 7th…7:45am…in the middle of a bathtub jello romp with Elizabeth Hurley…her British accent sparkling as she is covered in strawberry…

7:48am…Phone rings…d@mnit.

“Eric?”

“Yes sir?”

“What are you doing?”

“Talking to you sir.”

“Were you sleeping?”

“Yes sir.”

“I need you to immediately fly out to our New York office. Buy a ticket today, be there tomorrow on Wall Street.”

“Please say this is an April Fool’s Day joke sir.”

“I’m afraid not. I need you to take care of this pronto.”

“You got it sir.”

Tuesday, 1am…arrive at hotel, check email, prepare pathetic excuse for column for Tuesday, get 6 hours of sleep.

Tuesday, whenever I remember to hit the publish button…

The Tygrrrr Express is now in New York, jet lagged as can be. Yes, I know today is the New Hampshire Primary, but I am exhausted. I may snap out something, but more likely I will watch and wait. Like Wall Street Analysts, you will find me brilliant when I predict things after they have already happened.

I hate cold weather, and my birthday on Wednesday will not be spent in LA with my friends.

On the bright side, I am still young, successful, and astonishingly handsome.

Now to put out this NYC fire, get back to Elizabeth in the shower (hope she is still waiting), and God willing get back to LA soon.

As Susanna Hoffs would say…just another Manic Monday…Susanna Hoffs…man she had great Bangles.

I like NYC better than LA. For one, public transportation in LA stinks. You have to drive a car to get anywhere, and the traffic is atrocious. Worse still, there’s no excuse for it. I can understand the difficulties involved in building transportation infrastructures in and around cities like NYC, where eminent domain and such come into play, but LA sits in the desert! The roads came first! Why the heck is transportation such an issue in LA??? And it’s soooo spread out. NYC is nice and compact. I love NY. Maybe I’m just biased.

NY food is better. Entertainent is alot closer and compact. YOu could go to Times square with 5.00 lunch (screw that ! get a dog and a pretzel, maybe an ice)and sit for 2 hours and be entertained.
L.A is made for driving and its a car culture. Beach 1/2 hr. that way, skiing 2 hrs. that way. Lets go to Mexico for the weekend, or to Vegas. N.Y doesnt have that.
Venice beach & Santa Monica girls ! NEW YORK DOES NOT HAVE THAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lived just one the other side of the Hills from Zuma beach when I was younger. Beatiful area, but commuting was an absolute nightmare!

    I can beat that !

Try working in Newport and living in Santa Monica. ( I moved a month later )

Fugetaboutit. I had a hard enough time just to travel a lousy ten miles down the 105! I couldn’t even imagine commuting down there. I used to regularly travel down to Wilshire Blvd to do odd jobs for family. That was so miserable I used to avoid it like the plague. I don’t know how you Angelinos deal with it! Even when I lived and worked just one the other side of the rivers from NYC, I used to marvel at the people in their cars trying to get into the city everyday. I used pools and public trans and loved it. This love affair Americans have with the car is beyond me – especially when they live in big cities. I’d much rather take a train or a bus.

We cant get a train or a ferry in Hi. Cuz of the moonbats !

The train will be done in 2110. Its like the disney monorail.
the ferry only goes to maui.
    Moonbats, gaaaaadamn.

  7. micky2 says:

Whoa ! Thats supposed to be 2010, not 2110.
    But then again…

    Eric,
In case I don’t get back to my e-mail tomorrow: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :-)

  9. Jersey McJones says:

Yeah, the monorail. L.A. tried that. How long’s that been goin’ on now? 80 years? LOL! I remember that issue back when I was there in the late 80’s. So, Hawaii’s getting a monorail, huh? Gee. That’s great. Well, the tourists may like it, anyway.

If I remember, that classic Simpson episode, with the great “Monorail” song, was based on LA’s political dealings with monorails. Oh, the stupmanity!

It wont go past the airport or into Waikiki, its the environment thing.
The moonbats sit on their surfboards in all the harbors and block the ferry except for maui cuz the coast gaurd will git em.
But hey ! When their green catlogs and edible futons come by barge they dont mind.
Its mostly because the state here is run more half ass than any in the country. It has nothing to do with right or left really.
Its an old boys network thats been handed down from generation to generation

    Its all about contracts

    “Its all about contracts”

    Indeed, it usually is.
