Election 2022: Trump candidates a liability

I voted for Donald Trump twice. I thought he did an excellent job as President. However, he has done a terrible job trying to establish coattails. Ronald Reagan had coattails. Reagan brought young conservatives with him who grew up extending the message. Very few leaders can do that. Barack Obama has no coattails. Everyone except the diehards have tuned Obama out. Once Ron Johnson officially wins Wisconsin, Obama will return to being politically useless.
Sadly, the same is true for Trump. His chosen candidates sucked. Trump’s biggest problem is he worships celebrity. Therefore, he picks celebrities who, like Trump, do not really have a political philosophy. Even had his candidates won, there is no guarantee they would have voted conservative because many of them were not conservatives.
Dr. Oz was an awful candidate. A much better candidate would have been David McCormack, a real conservative. Pennsylvania was a disaster because the Trump-picked candidates starting at the top of the ticket were awful. Pennsylvania was the worst, but other states showed clear differences between the Trump candidates and the non-Trump candidates.
In New Hampshire, Chris Sununu easily won reelection by double digits. The pro-Trump Senate candidate lost by double digits.
In Georgia, Brian Kemp, who has repeatedly and unfairly been a punching bag for Trump, won easily. Yet Herschel Walker will have to go to a runoff.
In Ohio, JD Vance won by 7 points. Big deal. Mike Dewine won by 27 points. Vance won because he inherited a 27 point lead and only blew 20 points of it.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott won easily, ignoring Trump the whole time.
While Trump was instrumental in the initial rise of Ron DeSantis 4 years ago, DeSantis won reelection by doing the job. Trump’s childish insult of DeSantis the other day was unnecessary and wrong. DeSantis and Rubio clobbered their opponents.
There are people who worship Trump. Stop. He’s a man. He gets some things right and some thing wrong. He has not shown any ability to win elections outside of his own.
The GOP needs to start running ideologically conservative candidates again. We need candidates with blue suits, white shirts, and red & blue diagonal neckties who look like they work at a bank. We need to weed out this Ron Paul anti-war nonsense.
We need candidates who are committed to a pro-growth agenda free from protectionism.
Most importantly, we need candidates who are NORMAL.
Normal, normal, normal.
No more celebrities. Just normal common-sense conservatives.
We don’t need someone who keeps getting the same 20-30,000 people at rallies. We need someone who can quietly win elections.
As for the election, there was plenty of good news. It was not as bad as some gloom and doomers on the right want to say. The left will be celebrating, oblivious to the fact that they lost the House and may lose the Senate as well. Liberals and Palestinians celebrate defeat and treat losing by less than they thought to be the same as victory. On the right, we have a bad habit of accepting that a small victory is a defeat. It is not.
However, if we do not learn from this, 2024 will be a problem. That map is heavily in our favor. The only candidate who could possibly lose to Joe Biden is Donald Trump. Trump can beat Biden, but he could lose as well. Any NORMAL candidate would beat Biden like a drum.
Trump deserves credit for his successes. He should always be lauded for sparing the world a Hillary Clinton presidency. However, now he deserves a rubber chicken dinner and a gold watch.
Trump does not have coattails like Reagan did. The results speak for themselves.
Now to enjoy watching the Squad go crazy knowing they are in the minority and have no say about anything…as it should be.
As for battles, we have to help Herschel Walker in Georgia. After that, I will work to elect normal candidates who can clearly articulate a conservative vision. No more celebrities. Just conservatives.
