Taking Ted to the (wood) shed

Ted is dead.

My self-imposed 24 hour grace period, which the left would never give to George W. Bush or any other conservative, has ended.

I was willing to leave Ted Kennedy be and let his family mourn on the day of his death.

I will not sit back and let the media lionize his life.

It is time to take the Ted to the (wood) shed.

Not only was he a bad person, but he managed to make everybody around him worse.

I will not let Chappaquiddick go. Liberals who chant that “Bush lied, people died,” apparently do not care that Ted Kennedy left a woman to die, and then lied about it. Simply put, he put his political career over the life of a human being.

If members of the Klan build roads, that does not erase that they are members of the Klan. Hamas builds schools, but they are still terrorists who blow people up. A murderer who goes to prison and donates a kidney is as life neutral as the phonies who believe in carbon offsets.

Ted Kennedy did positive things, and I am sure if I picked up an industrial strength magnifying glass, I might find something. That does not invalidate the fact that he got drunk, drove a car off of a bridge, and left a woman to die, all the while using his money and power to cover up the truth.

Long before he took a human life, he cheated at Harvard. His family used their money and power to reduce an automatic expulsion and lifetime ban to a one year suspension.  This not only was a disgrace for Ted Kennedy, but was one occurrence in a series of events that has led Harvard over the past 40 years to decline from a first rate institution to the Poison Ivy League joke it is today. Also, university slots are finite. Bringing Ted back came at the expense of some random “little person” that he never bothered to think about.

Supporters of Ted Kennedy have sunk to his level of worthlessness. The National Organization for Women remains a collection of hags and harpies that have zero interest in women’s rights. Any organization that finds Ted Kennedy better for feminism than Sarah Palin is phony. Sarah Palin did not kill a woman. Sarah Palin is faithful to her spouse. Sarah Palin is cursed because she did not drive her daughter Bristol over a bridge to prevent a child from being born. Perhaps if Senator Kennedy had let his lover and child survive, he would be pilloried today.

George W. Bush used to drink. Unlike Ted Kennedy and Christopher Dodd, President Bush did not sexually assault his serving waitress. Also, those that criticize George W. Bush as having succeeded due to his family name should look at Ted Kennedy with an honest lens. At least George W. Bush attempted real jobs in the private sector, and returned to the private sector. Ted Kennedy claimed to care about the working man, even though he never was one. Being a “hardworking Senator” is not lifting a lunch pail and putting on a hard hat.

Ted Kennedy claimed to care about people, but he as was phony on other policies as he was about women’s issues. He claimed to be for renewable energy sources, but blocked a wind farm that obscured his pristine view from his Massachusetts home.

He raised taxes for middle Americans who could not afford the expensive tax attorneys and tax shelters that he utilized to evade the very laws he had enacted.

He was phony to the end. In 2004, he was concerned that if John Kerry was elected President (shudder), Republican Governor Mitt Romney would appoint a Republican to the seat. He had the law changed to call for a special election in that scenario, removing the governor’s power.

This in itself was not bad, even if the motives were impure. However, in 2009, he tried to change the law back because he wanted Deval Patrick, the very liberal governor of Massachusetts, to appoint another liberal rather than risk a special election.

Personality wise, Ted Kennedy was a bully. His treatment of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas was abusive. In an office setting, his behavior could have even been actionable. He took decent men and libeled them.

Worst of all, Ted Kennedy abused people who tried to reach across the aisle to him.

John McCain made the mistake of calling Ted Kennedy his friend. Ted Kennedy responded by lambasting him far beyond traditional politics during the 2008 election.

He worked with President George W. Bush on an education bill. He then turned around and called President Bush a liar, which is like the pot calling the kettle African-American.

Ted Kennedy personified the politics of personal destruction.

His passing will hopefully lead to a more civil discourse in society. At the very least, the Senate just became nicer by percentage.

My prediction is that the leftist bullies will try and get a terrible health care bill passed in his honor. “Win one for Teddy” will be used to try and paint everybody against a bad bill as trying to defile the memory of a man who died of brain cancer. This fits in with the left’s refusal to acknowledge that reasonable people can have principled disagreements.

Ted Kennedy did not just die of cancer, which I wish on nobody.

He was a cancer. He was pure poison. He destroyed innocent lives while holding himself up as a paragon of virtue. He wrecked reputations, for no other reason than pure power.

He wrecked lives.

I wish no pain on his family, but I will not shed a single crocodile tear on his passing.

I cannot think of a better way to honor this nation than to defeat the terrible bill that was his awful life’s work.

    Right on.
Thats everything I wanted to say yesterday ( you said it much better) but I decided to keep whithin in the theme of the 24 hour grace.
It didnt take long, Its already started, even on FOX. “Dems aim to pass healthcare in honor of Kennedy”

    Great, wonderful.
Lets just do this because it was Teds life long aspiration and never mind everything it will destroy much like the things you mentioned he did during his life.
Since it looks like launching an investigation as a distraction didnt work too well lets find some tool that can yank at our heartstrings so we’ll be blinded to the fallout such an entitlement would cause.
Regardless of the cost to our kids, regardless of the many liberties it will cost us, regardless of the lives it will actually NOT SAVE we should do it for Teddy because he would of wanted us to.
I almost hope they do pass it. Yeah, it may hurt in the beginning but should they pass this POS bill (and their arrogance in place of foresight will let them ) it will ne the single best campaign tool the GOP will of ever had in its chest making 2012 a cake walk

  3. […] Eric unloads the woodshed, the brickbats, and everything but the kitchen sink on Kennedy after somehow managing to observe the full 24 hours. Remember Robert Bork! […]

  5. That was the most mean-spirited and disappointing post I’ve ever read here. I had always admired the tenor of this blog, but today’s post was just plain nasty.

“The National Organization for Women remains a collection of hags and harpies that have zero interest in women’s rights.”

    Nasty.

Look, Ted Kennedy, love him, hate him, whatever, was a human being. No human being is perfect. He came from a very powerful family and, as is often the case, he sometimes abused that power. We all know that. GW Bush and his brother Neil also came from a powerful family and both abused that power at times, especially when they were young. Power does corrupt. We all know that too.

Now, I’m one of those people who does not care for lionizing and hero worship. I don’t fall for mythology – any mythology. I find it stupid and counterproductive. The Kennedys are among the most mythologized families is US history. JFK was no great liberal savior. Bobby was not some great hero of the poor and disenfranchized. Teddy was not the greatest senator of the modern era, by a long ways. I found his support for NCLB, for example, to be sleazy pandering of the lowest order. On the other hand, Ted had a long senate career, was very influential, and did a lot of good things.

Our good host, for some strange reason, neglects to mention Ted’s unflappable support of Israel. Too unflappable, if you ask me. Even Netanyahu was a big fan of his. You don’t get any more Zionist than Bibi! This blog is known for its support of Israel with rarely a week going by without some mention of Jewish identity politics, and yet somehow Kennedy’s stalwart support of Israel went unmentioned in this post. Strange.

“He was a cancer. He was pure poison. He destroyed innocent lives while holding himself up as a paragon of virtue. He wrecked reputations, for no other reason than pure power.”

    Man ‘o man, that’s nasty.

One thing I will always admire Kennedy for was his stand against the unnecessary war in Iraq. He was one of 23 senators who bravely voted against that awful, illegal, unconstitutional, evil, bloody, expensive, colonial oil war. Kennedy may have killed a woman in a drunk driving accident when he was a kid (funny, I never heard you mention anything about a similar thing Laura Bush did when she was young…), but at least he didn’t murder thousands of people in an unnecessary war!

    You guys have strange values.

Getting tired of hearing the war used as a talking point against just about anything conservative.

Would you care to compare the amount of children Saddam killed with their mothers still holding them, dead in the street ? Or all the people he killed period over his whole life ?
    How bout Ted Kenedy ?
Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million (1996)
Number of abortions per day: Approximately 3,700

You liberals cant go on ranting about how Ted was a champion for womens rights and abortion and then decide what kind of limit youd like to put on how many abortions hes responsible for. But, I’m in a gracious mood so lets low ball the whole thing, shall we ?
Ten percent ? five percent ? one percent? Or lets just give good ole Ted credit for one year, fair enough ? Whats that ? ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SEVEN MILLION ???????????????????????????????????????????????????

No matter how you look at it bro when you’ve got somewhere around 1.37 million abortions a year taking place in this country)and thats just since 96 Kennedys been in office over 30 years) thats an awful lot of dead babies !
    More even than Saddam killed.
Yeah, thats right, if you’re going to make the connection between Bush and dead Iraqis and Americans its only fair to apply the same standard to good ole Ted.
He didnt just kill the woman. HE LEFT HER FOR DEAD !!
He walked to a hotel for whatever stupid reason. He should of been found doing nothing but making repeated dives trying to save that woman. Anything else is just plain good ole unadulterated bullsh*t.

Read today’s LATimes for a better history of Ted, than this blog.

Leaving her behind to die in the car, says something about Ted’s character, or lack thereof.

Im not familar with the circumstance, or Ted’s frame of mind both
during the incident and afterwards, up to an including when he reported it.

Assuming she WAS still alive…for awhile, should Ted have been prosecuted
and given some jail time? Assuming it was his mother, or daughter, and he acted similarly, what would history have said about him? Think about it.

Ultimately, he lost, thanks to his apparent negligence and dumb thinking, but he recouped as we all know.

We all have to remind ourselves that liberal legislation costs these
politicians nothing, zilch, -0-, minus, a big negative. I cannot say that
    for the rest of US.

Has anyone noticed that our (Calif) taxes, and other fees have gone up?
I got my DMV notice, and guess what, it doubled. Then I read in the paper that State taxes are going up..deductions going down. Sales taxes have
    increased.

Oh, and the tax brackets have pushed taxpayers into higher tax rates.

While all this is going on, we now learn that the deficit will be larger by
about 2 trillion dollars over 10 years ( higher than originally forecast).
Obama is insisting that taxpayers who earn over 200,000 year, pay at a higher rate. This is still a higher rate folks, no matter what you call it.

But since I don’t earn over 200,000, I guess I’m okay, except for
the DMV fees, and California State taxes.

What is a poor Jew (Conservative) to do?

The former editor of Commentary Magazine, a conservative
monthly magazine which caters to smart Jews, has written a book
    called “Why are Jews Liberal?”

One answer is caus they have a ghetto mentality..they all believe they
were victims of the German Holocaust, even though few were actually
involved. Another is caus Republicans are thought to have too many
people who believe in Jesus as the Messiah. (As if the Baptists
    don’t!). Oh come on.

And what is so wrong with believing that? I mean, w/o Jesus,
what would this country be like? What would the world be like?
How would we Jews fare in America if there were 150m Muslims?

    I can see it now…

Look fellow posters, all wars, or at least most wars, are wars of
choice ( except WW2 ). We could have stayed out of “Nam” and Iraq.
Whose to say what the results would have been?

I find it truly amazing, that people now claim to have been against getting
rid of Saddam (3 weeks). I mean, it was none of our business, right, wrong.

Saddam was a really bad dude. He killed hundreds of thousands of Arabs and Muslims. He killed over 1m Iranians. He butchered his own family.
He stole from his people. He invaded Kuwait. He ignored the UNSC’s resolutions afterwards. He had every opportunity to leave the country, with his sons, etc. He didn’t.

The mistake by Bush was in declaring mission accomplished prematurely.
Also, not allowing the Iraqis to form their own govt afterward…His goal of a democratic Iraq was absurd. Arabs cannot govern themselves. whether in Iraq or Afghanistan. Religious Muslims cannot be democratic (see Iran).
We are now fighting Obamas war in Afghanistan. Anyone notice the
dread predictions? What did the Taliban ever do to US I ask. Sure, they
supported Al Qaeda, so does Syria and Iran. What ever did the
Serbs do to US? Are we aware that they lost over 600,000 during WW2, to Muslim SS divisions, etc.? Maybe they hold a grudge?

Vietnam was part of the tenuous world situation at the time, with Russian and
Chinese hegemony (Berlin Wall, Bay of Pigs, Korea etc.). Looking back
maybe our involvement was a mistake? Maybe Walter C. was in error? Maybe we should have won that war?

But as I always ask my dentist before a procedure, “If I do nothing
    then what?

Like him or hate him, Ted was good for the country. Was he a Ben
Franklin, no way. Was he a statesman..no. He was a zealot for
his liberal ideas..many of which did aid US.

I would say this to our current leader..”You ain’t no Kennedy”. He did
successfully reach out to the other side, unlike you.

As one poster wrote, let’s all hope and pray that a single payer
health plan is finally legislated., the dealth knell of the liberal
    establishment.

Want to know about govt bureacracy, just look at the IRS.
Do you want to be forced to comply with unfair taxes? Do you want
to go to jail if you commit an innocuous, non violent crime? Do you want
Federal prosecutors looking into every aspect of your life? Do you want to be served with a John Doe Summons?

    Think about it.

  8. Micky,

Just as the Kennedys have been ridiculously lionized by the Left, they have been ridiculously demonizeed by the Right. It’s all childish. And talking about hypocrisy – if I wrote a piece like that the day after Reagan died, guys like you would be up in arms over my indecency. And you say I “never held the same sentiment for GW BUSH,” when from the very comment you quoted I said exactly the same thing about GW Bush. I’ve said that about Bush many times. If anything Bush always struck me as all too human – not a very objective person.

“Would you care to compare the amount of children Saddam killed with their mothers still holding them, dead in the street? Or all the people he killed period over his whole life?”

The world is not a perfect place, Micky. There are lots of Saddams out there. We are not the world’s police. We can’t fix every country. And besides, there were plenty of options to invasion. The US has a long (often sleazy) history of destabilizing and overthrowing governments without ever so much as raising a rifle. Iran, Chile, Guatamala, even Australia have felt our imperial tenticles affect the course of their histories. We’ve altered the histories of countless dozens of countries without violence. The war was unnecessary. Period. We should have just paid off a few Iraqi generals to pull a coup.

    “How bout Ted Kenedy?
Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million (1996)
Number of abortions per day: Approximately 3,700”

I’m glad Kennedy did his part to make abortions legal, regulated, and safe. Good for him.

“He didnt just kill the woman. HE LEFT HER FOR DEAD!!”

Nobody knows for sure what happened that night. Any remaining memory of that event died forever yesterday. Whatever happened, happened, and it happened a long time ago. But in America, rich people get to live by a different set of laws than the rest of us. If you or I did what he did, we’d still be rotting in prison to this day. Conservatives, like you, support that status quo. So, if you don’t like that Kennedy got away with manslaughter, then look at your own ethics. It’s conservatives like you that let the rich get away, sometimes literally, with murder.

Dan, are you really Jewish??? REALLY??? “Few”??? 6 MILLION JEWS DIED!!! “Ghetto mentality”??? To quote one brilliant liberal Jew, “On what planet do you spend most of your time?”

You know why most Jews are “liberal”? Because they’re smart. The Jewish tradition strongly stresses education and learning, and as Stephen Colbert said, “Reality has a well-known liberal bias.” The more educated you are, the more likely you are to be liberal. Therefore, most Jews are liberal. It’s a testament to the value of their traditions.

“when from the very comment you quoted I said exactly the same thing about GW Bush”

Sorry man, I dont believe you.
You’re gonna have to show me where you said that about Bush. And even if you did, everything you’cve ever said about him contradicts it.

Kennedy cant hold a thing to Bush. sorry.

“Nobody knows for sure what happened that night. Any remaining ”

Yeah, but we know what he told us. And what he told us was that he went to a hotel…hes a creep looser.

I dont support the status quo, and you know it, so stop another form of lying by saying sh*t thats just not true. Country is my least favorite music I support legalizing pot, letting felons vote, minimizing drug sentences and giving treatment, operate food banks (2 now)

“It’s conservatives like you that let the rich get away, sometimes literally, with murder. ”

Kennedys ideoology has nothing to do with my dislike for how he got away with murder.
What kinda idiocy was that when its the left that always throwing vigils and protests for convicted killers ?
You cant have it both ways. Accusing us of wanting to lock everyone up and then saying we let em go just to try and win your stupid argument about Kennedy.
Sorry bub, you ate it on that one.

  11. Micky,

I directly compared two Bush brothers to Kennedy. You quoted it! Man, Micky, sometimes I just can’t figure you out.

“Kennedy cant hold a thing to Bush. sorry.”

That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life.

The point I was making about conservatism and rich people being above the law is that conservatism worships wealth. It worships at the idol of money. It is a belief system based on the notion that the accrual wealth is the highest form of productivity, that the wealthy all deserve to be wealthy, that they are the “producers,” the creators of wealth, the driving force of the invisible hand. That’s what supply-side economics is based upon. And so, naturally, in a society like ours, the wealthy get away with all sorts of misbehavior. That’s why so many conservatives believe OJ was innocent – not because of the evidence, but because they didn’t like the assertion that his money, his wealth, bought his injustice. You conservatives worship the wealthy, and the wealthy play you all for fools.

    JMJ

  12. Micky 2 says:

“I directly compared two Bush brothers to Kennedy. You quoted it! Man, Micky, sometimes I just can’t figure you out.

Because I’m smarter than you give me credit for, thats why.
And no, you didnt compare on a human level, only family, power and corruption
And even if you did, you’ve said such horrible things about the man theres not a quote on earth from you that could mitigate it.

Now, lets break down this paragraph, shall we ?

“Look, Ted Kennedy, love him, hate him, whatever, was a human being. No human being is perfect. ”

Okay, Teds an imperfect human, got it. I dont see you saying that about Bush.
    ————————————————————————————

“He came from a very powerful family and, as is often the case, he sometimes abused that power. ”

Yup, he abused it alot, got it. You didnt say Bush was human
    ————————————————————————————-
“We all know that. GW Bush and his brother Neil also came from a powerful family and both abused that power at times, ”

Not as much as Kennedy, got it. But I dont see you calling him human yet.
    ————————————————————————————-
“especially when they were young. Power does corrupt. We all know that too.”

Okay, where did you say … Look, George W Bush, love him, hate him, whatever, was a human being. No human being is perfect.

or you could of said….Both Bush and Kennedy love them, hate them, whatever, were human beings . No human being is perfect.

HUH ? Wheres the ame sentiment for Bush ?
So you see jersey. This is an example of the childish game you play.

You claim to of given the same sentiments to Bush that you did Kenedy but thats not really true, is it ?

It say that both Kenedy and Bush abused power and that it corrupted both of them and that they both came from powerful families.
It doesnt say they were both human, it just says that Kennedy was human.

Please, stop it. Stop the freaking idiotic games of dodge and BS that you play

Okay, now that weve got that outa the way I can go on to stomp this.

“The point I was making about conservatism and rich people being above the law is that conservatism worships wealth. It worships at the idol of money”

We worship it because it has value. It has value because we actually earn it.
You guys just take it and expect it for free.
And so Kennedy bought his way out of a murder rap and you believe this ?

Thats the funniest thing I’ve heard, today.

Without the wealthy, liberals wouldnt exist because you’d have nothing to do

  13. Micky, this is getting way to pedantic. Just so you know, yes, Bush, like Ted kennedy, is a human being, raised in a powerful family, who behaved like an idiot when he was a kid and got away with it. One stroke of bad luck and GWB could easily have done the same thing Ted did, and he probably would have gotten a way with it just like Ted. When you party a lot, as you should well know, the odds of something really bad happening increase exponentially. GWB, like Kennedy, was an infamous partier when he was young. Kennedy was just a litttle less lucky than Bush. Just the same, Kennedy did a lot more good with his life than Bush did, even though that’s not saying much. Bush was sober when he caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis. At least Ted was probably drunk when he killed one woman. And remember, that one woman made a choice. She made a choice to get in the car with a drunk Ted. The thousands of dead Americans and Iraqis had no choice. Bush had the choice, and he chose war profits for his buddies over thousands of innocent lives. Ted had a choice too. He made a bad choice. But at least he was relatively young, and drunk. Bush was older and sober.

I’ll take Kennedy over Bush any day.

    JMJ

  14. Micky 2 says:

“Micky, this is getting way to pedantic. Just so you know, yes, Bush, like Ted kennedy, is a human being”

    There ya go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that wasnt so hard ! Was it ???

Sorry, call it pedantic I dont give a rats a$$ you have to stop these pathetic attempts at winning arguments.
I’m trying to groom both of us here so we can have more productive debates, I’m trying on my end.

You can have Kennedy, hes starting to smell. Bush would of handled it differently. As a matter of fact, he did. He never assulted anyone ( I think he smacked his dad ) and still had the foresight to quit drinking.

“Bush was sober when he caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis.

Oh, you wanna play that ole game ? Grow up. Then lets apply the same standard to every president whos war we choose disagree with.
They werent drafted, they knew what was in store.
Being drunk was never an excuse for my idiocy.

Kennedy was sober when he caused the deaths of thousands of American babies who had no choice.

  15. Oh get real. With or without Ted Kennedy, abortion would be legal in the US today. We aren’t that backwards a people. the modern American woman is not the property of men. You can’t force them to have babies.

    JMJ

  16. Toma says:

The Kennedys own Massachusetts and surely there is another Kennedy to be placed in Teddy’s chair, or at least some one of his ilk. Will we never see the last of this corrupt power mongering family? Probably not, they are an ingrained parasitic bunch living off the gains of Old Joe, the bootlegger. They are obviously very fertile.

Conservatives worship wealth and liberals worship sefdom, take your choice. Josef, Vladimir and Nikita are very proud of Barack and his cadre. Karl and Friedrich are getting a little impatient with us though, it is taking far to long for the masses to knuckle under and succumb to the inevitable.

Teddy was just being a good Democrat. He did his very best to destroy people he didn’t like or those that just happened to get in his way. But that is what Dems do and they are very good at it. Teddy was one of the best. He proved his worth day in and day out, year in and year out. Oh yes, he will be missed, somewhere by someone, maybe.

eric is right, Teddy was a cancer, but only part of the cancer. The cancer is still there malignant and growing. All we can do is treat the symptoms for now as the cure will take a little time.

But, America is very angry, and that is not a good thing for Teddy’s Democrats. They don’t understand Americans.

    Toma

  17. Micky 2 says:

“Oh get real. With or without Ted Kennedy, abortion would be legal in the US today. ”

    It doesnt matter.
Hes still one of the biggest supporters of abortion there ever was.
You guys love to give him credit for a womans ability to have an abortion its only fair that you give him credit for the consequences also.
Every single person who had his hand in the making of abortion laws is responsible to certain extent. Some more than others. Kenndy… a whole lot.
You just bow him out by saying “with or without” Because “without” amyone pushing abortion there wouldnt be any. But as is the case we clearly have people who are “WITH” the cause.

    And Kennedy was with it.
Not every Nazi was responsible for the 6 million Jews that died, but as a collective they all have to share the blame.
You cant just say “with or without” one of them it would of happened anyway

“We aren’t that backwards a people. the modern American woman is not the property of men. ”

    I beg to differ.
And the modern American baby is not the property of anyone to be discarded at will.
Your argument that women are not the property of men is a false argument, its bullsh*t.
Its about the promotion of life and the sanctity of it.
Whether you’re fearful of some diety or not its wrong to take one of the greatest things ever and discard of it for your own personal convenence.

“Gee, she could of gone on to be so great if it werent for that damn baby”

( I guess we’ll never know how great that baby would of been, huh ?)

Its like saying all those people Tookie Williams murdered was worth it because in the end some really great kids books came out of it. BS, he still killed those people and no matter how neccessary it was it was not his place to take those lives.
You may argue that those lives were of value. But there you go again. You do not determine the value of life, no one should unless its proof positive that person owes a life, such as Tookie who was sentenced to death. These death sentences are far and few apart compared to the amount of abortions which are in the millions every year.
Just like with the health care rationing or end of life counseling that will no doubt be ensued upon us if the bill is passed. It gives liberals the ability to choose what lives are worthy and what lives are not.

    You make me sick.

“You can’t force them to have babies.”

Why not ? You guys force people to do all kinds of things. What we eat, how we dress, adjust our thermostats, that all effects my body too.
But oh no, not the babies, they get in the way of my schlonging activities.

Promiscuity is probably the single largest reason you guys like abortion. Furthering your careers I know comes second because you’re all such big fans of your own educations.

Heres an example of how you guys dont value life, or the loss of it, and see its loss as a catapult for personal gain.

“We don’t know how much Kennedy was affected by her death, or what she’d have thought about arguably being a catalyst for the most successful Senate career in history. What we don’t know, as always, could fill a Metrodome.

Still, ignorance doesn’t preclude a right to wonder. So it doesn’t automatically make someone (aka, me) a Limbaugh-loving, aerial-wolf-hunting NRA troll for asking what Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted’s death, and what she’d have thought of the life and career that are being (rightfully) heralded.

Who knows — maybe she’d feel it was worth it.”

“Meanwhile, listening to ”Reflections on Sen. Kennedy … Lion of the Senate” on the Diane Rehm Show on the drive home last night, I was deeply moved to hear Newsweek’s Ed Klein tell guest host Katty Kay about Kennedy’s love of humor. How the late senator loved to hear and tell Chappaquiddick jokes, and was always eager to know if anyone had heard any new ones. Not that Kennedy lacked remorse, Klein quickly added, seeming to intuit that my jaw and perhaps those of other listeners had just hit the floorboards. I gather it was a self-deprecating maneuver on Kennedy’s part, exercised with the famous Kennedy charm, though it sounds like one of those “I guess you had to have been there” things.”
