UCLA–Islamists Good, Gays Bad

Another recent lecture at the UCLA Center for Near Eastern Studies offered a delightful mixture of intellectually deficient material mixed with a dash of coriander bigotry, delivered by a nutmeg professor.

Joseph Massad is the Associate Professor of Modern Arab Politics and Intellectual History at Columbia.

For those who want to know about the “Oil for gays” scandal, or to understand the proctological confusion that is Joseph Massad, my column today is at Campus Watch.

The way these Islamist professors act, you would think were marching in the streets of Kuwait going, “We’re here, we’re queer, we demand to see the Emir.”

I once visited the UCLA campus many years ago, and noticed
“the walk”. It is a student walkway, which weaves it’s way, from the main quad (Royce Hall, etc.) down to the student union building, passed the
    mens gym.

Varying groups were giving their schpiel, ( with signs and banners)
advocating for and against every known controversy at the time.

I favor peaceful, non violent, freedom of speech, on controlled
areas. I am against allowing the Middle Eastern studies departments access to captive student audiences., especially when my State tax
    dollars finances the institution.

If an Arab-Muslim owend institution wants to spew hated, on their
premises, as long as they don’t advocate violence/mayheim, the overthrow of the government, etc., and it is not supported with public money, I have no objections. On a State financed institution, that is something else.

Let’s put this in perspective. What if there were a white studies department which had similar speaches and professors advocating terrorism, violence,
anti-black actions…I mean how long would it take before the entire
    college/nation, was up in arms?

But folks, this is what is relevant here. I read today that Israel is receiving
another 3 billion dollars to purchase US military equipment, so as to
keep it’s somewhat edge over the heavily armed Arab world.

When receiving money however, there are strings attached. While
I disagree with Obama pressuring Israel to relinquish territory and
stop construction of nursery schools in East Jerusalem, I applaud him
for the latest announcement that the US will deploy Patriot Missiles
and missile firing cruisers (state of the art) in 4 Arab countries
and in the Persian Gulf. This is designed to send Ahmad a message,
don’t think about it firing missiles at US friends and allies, or face
a more than adequate defense and possible retaliation.

I also read that our envoy to the M.E. is telling the EU to pressure
Abbas (Fatah head) to begin talks with the Jews ( he is demanding
    Israel surrender before the talks).

So, all in all, it seems like Obama and his minions, are finally waking up to the realities of this violent world. A weak Arab nation and a vulnerable
Israel, will, in my opinion, lead to WW3. All the ingredients are there.
We will have another WW1 scenario, with countries taking sides.

Folks, this is what I am trying to avoid.

With 54 Democrats signing a letter to Obama to pressure little
Israel to end it’s seige of the Gazans ( boycott of some dual purpose
goods), we activists for America, Israel and the free world, must
    never stop being on guard.

To that extent, I am pleased that Scott Brown, a real super patriot
beat out the liberal candidate. I am hopeful that our own liberal,
Miss Boxer, will meet the same fate next Nov.

I don’t care which Republican wins….anyone would be better for US than the tax and spend Boxer. But, let us not narrow the umbrella of
    constituents.

I am dismayed when I read that Republicans and Independents
may not vote for a moderate, or vote for a candidate knowing
there is no possibility of winning againt the Democrat.

This is cutting our noses to spite our faces.

We Republicans and Independents must understand, it’s about winning.
I congratulate the SC for changing the campaign law, which now allows
corporatons to spend money on elections. It’s called freedom of speech.
Hear that Soros with all YOUR MONEY. Now you have a real
advisary, the American people, all the people., not just your liberal
millionaire friends in Hollywood and on the left.

  2. Well, a lot of what this Massad guy was saying sounds like it could have straight from the mouth of an American Religious Right conservative.

Homosexuals are an odd lot, politically speaking. Take here in America. Homosexuals are among our wealthiest social sectors. Many of them are Republicans. Among many people who are otherwise liberal or progressive, they are persona non grata. This is true for many folks in the Hispanic and African American sectors.

In the Islamic world, which unfortunately is stuck in a historical vacuum at the moment, homosexuality remains a mortal taboo. This article reminds me of when that screwball Ahmadinejad said there were no homosexuals in Iran. Really? None? Maybe he’s just too unkempt to know any?

Anti-homosexualism in the Arab world, in particular, well predates Islam. This has to do with the tenuously small populations that historically dotted the Arabian world. In Persia, it seems more to be a nationalist reaction against the old Far-Eastern rulers who dominated that part of the world up until the arrival European colonialists. The Khans were very socially progressive (unless they didn’t like you, in which case they were socially genocidal).

Our good host wrote a very interesting article. Really makes ya’ think.

    Dan,

It’s a myth that staunch conservatism wins elections. When you look at the off-year elections last year, the only staunch conservative on any of the tickets lost. He lost. The GOP victors were all – ALL – relative moderates. I think the voting public is tired of hard-core ideologues. You’re be cutting your own nose off if you think and act otherwise.
